PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – When you need to go to the hospital, you want to be sure that the one you are going to is a good one.

Heat dangers and how to avoid them

In that vein, Princeton locals have some reassuring news. WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital is ranked one of the best in the nation according to U.S. News and World Reports’ ranking based on Medicare and Medicaid data.

The report says the hospital is among the top tier of hospitals due to three high performing specialties – COPD, knee replacement, and heart failure treatment.

The Vice President of Operations at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital Al Boland told 59News that heart disease and COPD are very common throughout West Virginia as well as the nation.

“It’s important that patients know, for something as those two diseases are locally, that they can stay local and receive the highest quality care within Princeton Community Hospital and not have to travel for those services,” said Boland.

Many people would be content with just doing a good enough job to get by, but Boland said Princeton Community Hospital will not settle.

“We’re always looking to improve,” Boland added. “In fact, acute care is always evidence based, so we’re always looking at the research that comes nationally and is shared so that we can continue to provide the best quality care possible. We continue to explore avenues to continue to improve for diabetes, and even make sure to maintain the quality status that we have for COPD, heart disease, and other ailments that ail this community.”

Another program that is taking flight is the newly acquired cancer treatment program at the hospital.
