It's been a busy summer for the Prineville Swim Team.

After winning their opening meet of the season at home the swim team has gone to Lakeview and Pendleton on successive weekends, tying for first in the boys portion of the Lakeview meet, while taking second in the girls competition at Lakeview and finishing third in the boys meet at Pendleton, despite not taking their entire roster and swimming against clubs that swim year round.

“We had an outstanding meet at Pendleton, with lots of amazing swims.” head coach Halley Estes said. “This was a big meet with a lot of year round swimmers and the kids did great.”

At the four-team Lakeview meet, the host team handily won, scoring 435 points in the girls competition and 300 in the boys to amass 735 total points. Meanwhile, the Prineville Swim Team finished with 235.5 points in the girls meet and tied Lakeview with 300 in the boys meet to finish second in the combined scoring with 535.5 points. The Klamath Basin Aquatics team finished third overall with 400.5 points, while Hi-Desert Swim Team of Burns trailed the field with 209 points.

The results set up an interesting showdown between Lakeview and the Prineville Swim Team at the Cascades East District Meet, which will be held later this summer in Lakeview. The Prineville Swim Team dominated Lakeview in their home meet to start the season, while Lakeview easily won at home. In both cases the visiting team did not take their entire roster, so it will be interesting to see how the two teams match up at the end of the year when they should both be at full strength.

Then, this past weekend at Pendleton, scores were only kept for the top three teams in both the boys and girls competition. Multnomah Athletic Club took first in the girls meet with 937 points, while the Redmond Aquatic Club Eels took second with 530 points and the La Grande Swim Club finished third with 442 points. In the boys competition the Beaverton Area Aquatic Club won with 443 points, while Multnomah Athletic Club was a close second with 423 points and the Prineville Swim Team finished third with 332 points in the 17 team meet.

At Lakeview, three Prineville Swim Team boys won six of their possible seven individual races, while several other people, including seven relay teams, also took firsts.

    In the boys 8U, Connor Osborne took first in the 100 freestyle, 2:03.32, 50 freestyle, 55.60, 25 butterfly, 38.68, 25 backstroke, 27.85, 100 individual medley, 2:39.94, 25 breaststroke, 38.56, and the 25 freestyle, 24.02.

    Thaddaeus Estes duplicated Osborne's performance in the boys 12U division, taking first in the 200 freestyle, 2:51.09, 100 freestyle, 1:06.50, 50 butterfly, 40.30, 100 individual medley, 1:27.62, 50 breaststroke, 47.65 and 50 freestyle, 33.87.

In the boys 13-14 age group, Emmett Klann accomplished the same feat, winning the 200 freestyle, 3:05.14, 100 freestyle, 1:15.35, 100 butterfly, 1:38.06, 100 backstroke, 1:34.06, 200 individual medley, 3:25.46, and 50 freestyle, 35.12.

Although the trio of standout swimmers get top billing they were far from the only Prineville swimmers to win races. Swimming in the boys 11-12 age group, Gavin Tomlinson won the 50 backstroke in a time of 42.53, while Estes was second in the race. Tomlinson was also second to Estes in the 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 100 individual medley, 50 freestyle, and took third in the 50 breaststroke.

Other winners from the Prineville Swim Team included Kelton Davis in the boys 13-14 100 breaststroke, 1:44.72, and Adaleigh Wright in the girls 11-12 50 breaststroke, 53.46.

In addition, the relay team of Jadynn Estes, Leah Estes, Havah Estes and Violet Johnson took first in the 10U 100 medley relay with a time of 2:17.97, while the same quartet also took first in the 100 freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.91. The girls 12U 200 freestyle relay team of Adaleigh Wright, Lynah Basko, Eva Petersen and Makayla Osborne won in a time of 3:00.43, while the boys 12U team of Blake Raymond, Kade Swick, Osborne and Tomlinson won the same relay in a time of 3:27.37.

In the boys 14U age group, Estes, Davis, Klann and Tomlinson won the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:45.25, while Estes, Davis, Austin Christen and Klann won the 200 freestyle relay in 2:28.32. The final Prineville Swim Team relay squad to win a race was in the girls 19U 200 medley relay where Eleanor Klann, Ashtyn Wilde, Versailee Salisbury and Petersen won with a time of 3:10.44.

Although she did not win any individual races, Havah Estes still had an outstanding meet, taking second in the girls 9-10 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 100 individual medley and 50 freestyle, while also taking third in the 50 breaststroke.

Other second place finishers for the Prineville Swim Team included Leah Estes in the girls 8U 100 freestyle and the 25 freestyle, Peterson in the girls 11-12 50 breaststroke, Basko in the girls 11-12 50 freestyle, Salisbury in the girls 13-14 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, Davis in the boys 13-14 200 freestyle and 50 freestyle, Christen in the boys 13-14 100 breaststroke and Eleanor Klann in the girls 15-19 200 freestyle.

Meanwhile, first places were scares for the Prineville Swim Team in Pendleton as just Thaddaeus Estes, Connor Osborne and Emmett Baertlein won individual races, while three relay teams also earned first place finishes.

Estes took his first place finish in the boys 11-12 50 backstroke with a time of 43.00, while Osborne won the boys 8U 200 freestyle in a time of 4:35.69 and Baertlein earned his victory in the boys 8U 100 breaststroke with a time of 2:33.65.

Not only did Osborne win a race, he finished second in his age group in points scored with 52 points, while Luka McGrath of Multnomah Athletic Club was the high point athlete in the age group with 55 points.

The three relay teams who earned first place finishes were the boys 12U 200 freestyle team of Christian Wild Binder, Bo Kerr, Tomlinson and Estes, 2:38.23, the boys 13 and over 200 medley relay team of Kelton Davis, August Baertlein, Donny Kerr and Soren Kerr, 2:40.96, and the mixed 13 and over 200 freestyle relay team of Kierra Harpole, Kelton Davis, Ashtyn Wild and Donny Kerr with a time of 2:36.12.

The swim team competes at Lincoln City on Friday, July 12, then travel to Burns for a meet July 19-21, before concluding their season at the District Finals in Lakeview on July 26-28.
