PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) – Ground and air crews were called out Saturday afternoon to tackle a new brush fire reported east of George Millican Road and about six miles southwest of Prineville that burned about 20 acres by early evening.

Crook County Fire & Rescue, federal and state resources responded to the new start, Incident 550, reported shortly after 3 p.m., near milepost 6, and within about an hour estimated to be about two acres in size.

Air tankers, a helicopter and air attack were assisting firefighters on the ground, officials said.

Windy conditions reportedly were pushing the fire to the southeast, burning in sagebrush, grass and juniper.

Shortly after 6 p.m., officials said the fire had grown to about 20 acres. They said forward progress had been stopped, "but potential still remains for fire growth."

Resources on scene included engines, skidgeons, a bulldozer, water tender and other personnel.

We’ll have more details as we receive them.
