Rally Held For Mazi Pilip, Tom Suozzi Ahead Of High-Profile Congressional Special Election

    2024-01-28

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. - As the campaigning continues for the vacant seat in New York's 3rd Congressional District, Mazi Pilip and Tom Suozzi both participated in events Saturday afternoon in Massapequa to rally support behind them.

Following the removal of Representative George Santos and the subsequent vacancy of his seat, both the Republican and Democratic parties are engaged in a competitive struggle to gain control of the House of Representatives through a special election in New York's third congressional district.

As of the February 13th election, the district's seat will have been unoccupied for 74 days following the expulsion of Rep. George Santos back on December 1, 2023.

Mazi Pilip, a former Israeli Defense Force paratrooper and current county legislator, was joined by notable members of the Nassau GOP at a rally on Saturday calling for support of her campaign. Pilip, a registered Democrat, was chosen by local Republicans to run for the open seat in congress after successfully being elected for a county legislator position on the Republican line in November 2021.

Only a stone's throw away from the Massapequa American Legion Post where the Nassau GOP rally was located, Tom Suozzi held a rally outlining the support of the Local 3 IBEW and SMART unions, according to a Facebook post. Suozzi, the district's former representative of three years, was chosen as a recognizable figure by the Democrats in hopes to fill the vacant seat once again.

Both candidates continue to campaign intensely with less than a week left before early voting begins on February 3rd.
