    2024-05-31

HICKSVILLE, NEW YORK - Firefighters were called to a commercial construction site on South Broadway late Friday morning after a small fire broke out.

Witnesses reported black smoke billowing from the roof of a construction site at 350 South Broadway in Hicksville just after 10:30 AM, prompting multiple fire departments to respond.

Quick-thinking construction workers at the site jumped into action as soon as they saw the smoke rising from the incomplete building and grabbed a hose, spraying the small fire on the rooftop with water until firefighters arrived and extinguished the few remaining pockets of flames.

According to fire crews, roofing materials on top of the under-construction building caught on fire, but did not spread into the building.
