Weekend Fire Damages Grand Island Day Care

GRAND ISLAND, NEW YORK - An early childhood education center on Grand Island Boulevard was forced to temporarily close its doors after a fire sparked inside the building early Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters from the Grand Island Fire Company responded to the KinderKiddz day care center at 2710 Grand Island Boulevard after they received a report of an automatic fire alarm activation inside the building just after 12:45 PM.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke filling the building. They quickly identified the source of the fire in one of the classrooms. The blaze had already spread, extending into the attic and roofline, complicating the firefighting efforts.

Despite the fire spreading, firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. At least one classroom was heavily damaged.

The business was vacant at the time of the fire.

There were no reported injuries.
