    Firefighters Save 3 Dogs From Raging Wyandanch House Fire

    WYANDANCH, NEW YORK - Three people were hospitalized and three dogs were rescued from a raging fire in a Washington Avenue home late Sunday night.

    Several 911 calls were placed shortly after 10:20 PM, alerting emergency services to a house on fire in the vicinity of Washington Avenue and North 26th Street in Wyandanch.

    When firefighters arrived at the scene, they were met with flames and thick smoke billowing from the house. Firefighters from multiple departments sprung into action and tackled the residential inferno, extinguishing all of the visible flames.

    Three people were transported to local area hospitals for smoke inhalation following the fire, Suffolk County Police say.

    Three dogs were also rescued from the blaze by first responders. They were taken for evaluation.

    Nearly four hours after extinguishing the blaze, firefighters had to return to the scene when the fire reignited. They swiftly extinguished the fire a second time.

    There is no official word yet on the cause of the fire.
