Dump Truck Overturns, Slams Into Pole, Heavily Trapping Driver For Over An Hour In Long Island Crash

DIX HILLS, N.Y. - A dump truck traveling south on Deer Park Avenue overturned and slammed into a pole, heavily trapping the driver inside for more than an hour on Tuesday morning.

Just before 9:35AM, first responders rushed to the intersection of Kenmore Street and Deer Park Avenue after a dump truck traveling southbound overturned onto its side and slammed into a nearby pole.

The force of the collision heavily trapped the driver inside the vehicle as the overturned truck wrapped itself around the pole supporting traffic signals at the intersection.

The driver was extensively pinned inside the damaged truck cab for nearly an hour and five minutes as first responders worked intensively to free him from the wreckage.

After being successfully extricated, the driver was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

A prolonged operation was carried out by a local towing and recovery company. Three heavy-duty tow trucks were required to upright the dump truck.

Crews from the New York State Department of Transportation and PSEG Long Island were working late into Tuesday afternoon to restore power and repair damaged traffic signals at the scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
