Thrive Umpqua is holding the Longest Table, Community Dinner and Celebration on Saturday August 24th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A release said residents are invited gather for a farm-to-table dinner, crafted by local chefs, at the scenic Stewart Park Green Bridge at Stewart Park Drive – adjacent to Fir Grove Park. The event will provide a unique space for residents to share ideas and get to know one another. From advocating for walkable neighborhoods to fostering active friendships and promoting healthy lifestyle choices, attendees are asked to bring their ideas to the table.
DRIVER ELUDED DEPUTIES IN SOUTH COUNTY CHASE
A driver eluded deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office following a chase on Tuesday afternoon. A DCSO report said at 4:40 p.m. a deputy tried to stop a sedan for expired tags in the 100 block of Sether Avenue in Glendale. The male driver eluded. At the end of Tunnel Road, the driver conducted an e-brake turn and sped forward striking the front of the patrol vehicle. The pursuit continued into Josephine County where the driver went up an unmarked driveway and bailed on foot.

It’s been ages since Portland has had a dedicated LGBTQ+ print publication in the tradition of folded outlets like PQ Monthly and Just Out, which reported on stories about the LGBTQ+ community from its own perspective. A new free newspaper, Sus magazine (susworld.org), has taken the reins, reporting news and sharing art and creative writing from within the community. But unlike its predecessors, Sus isn’t based in Portland—and it doesn’t write about just us, either.
Chetco girls bring home championship from Medford
The Chetco Basketball Club and is comprised of 2-4 Grade girls from Brookings. The team was formed in March of this year, but are progressing rapidly. The girls have been practicing twice a week and have played 23 games since April. They have played teams from across Oregon and California. The program was started to provide a year-round, competitive basketball environment for the youth in the community. “The girls have progressed tremendously since March both on and off the court,” said coach Tyler Wood. “As coaches, we could not be prouder.” This past weekend the team competed in the coed 4th grade division of the MBA Summer Kickoff Tournament at the Rogue Credit Union Community Complex in Medford. The girls faced the MBA Girls 4th grade team from Medford in the Championship game and won by a final score of 21-6.
