PROSPERITY — For the sixth year, the Prosperity Police Department, along with a number of community partners, are teaming up to give back to the community during their annual community giveback and National Night Out event on July 19.

The event will take place at the Prosperity Civic Center/Town Park from 6-9 p.m.

Sergeant Philip Hunter, with the Prosperity Police Department, said the event is a way for the police department to not only give back, but show first responders in a different light.

“When kids see police officers, it’s usually when they’re dealing with adults and families. They don’t always understand that we’re here to help them out so we want them to see a different side,” he said.

With a new school year quickly approaching, the police department will also be giving out about 100 backpacks and water bottles for kids needing school supplies.

Police Chief Wesley Palmore other community partners will be bringing games, bounce houses, face painting and more. He said the nearby basketball court is also a hit during the event.

“It’s a fun time - a big community get together,” he said.

Palmore added that if anyone would like to donate school supplies but are unable to attend the event, donations can be dropped off at the Prosperity Police Department.
