PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — People in Providence may be able to hear a loud siren on Friday, but officials say there is no cause for alarm.

The city says the goal of the test is to ensure the siren system and its control panels are functioning proerly.

Residents do not need to take any action during the test. The sound of the siren will be followed by an audible message that says, “This is a test of the emergency management public warning system. This is only a test.”
