    29 RI cities, towns to receive funding for academic programs

    (WPRI) — In a second round of funding, 29 Rhode Island municipalities will be receiving $3.8 million in grants through the Learn365RI initiative .

    The grants are funded through the state’s budget. They range from about $40,000 to $400,000 and are aimed at supporting learning outside the traditional school day.

    Governor Dan McKee and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) revealed the grant recipients on Monday.

    Providence is among the communities receiving funding. The city plans to use the money in partnership with the Providence After School Alliance and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Providence to develop after-school programs with a focus on academics.

    Central Falls is also receiving a significant grant to try and expand academic support for multilingual learners and improve attendance.

    • Central Falls - $200,000
    • Cranston - $366,327.40
    • East Providence - $200,000
    • Middletown - $269,413
    • Newport - $393,688.47
    • North Kingstown - $189,124.06
    • Pawtucket - $200,000
    • Providence - $200,000
    • Smithfield - $189,124.07
    • South Kingstown - $325,000
    • Warwick - $332,065
    • Woonsocket - $200,000

    The following communities are receiving smaller grants:

    • Barrington
    • Bristol
    • Burrillville
    • Cumberland
    • East Greenwich
    • Hopkinton
    • Lincoln
    • Little Compton
    • New Shoreham
    • North Providence
    • North Smithfield
    • Portsmouth
    • Scituate
