The Providence Journal is proud to announce the 2024 All-States Girls Golf team, sponsored by Ocean State Golf Academy. The Providence Journal has been naming All-State teams for more than 80 years to recognize and celebrate the top student-athletes across Rhode Island. The Journal Sports staff, with some help from the coaches associations, determine the first- and second-team members. The All-State teams are also posted on the High School Sports Awards page on providence journal.com/sports.

All first-team members were nominees for Player of the Year in that sport, and winners were announced at the High School Sports Awards show held last month at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence, featuring former Oklahoma softball star Nicole Mendes, who is now an ESPN analyst .

In Girls Golf, the Providence Journal Player of the Year is Olivia Williams of La Salle.

    First Team

    Lily Dessel

    Barrington, Junior

The silent assassin has been a killer during her three years, each of which has ended with a spot as a first-team All-Stater. Dessel was a model of consistency all season and played the same way at the state championships. After shooting a 78 on Day 1, Dessel shot 77 on Day 2 and it gave her a second-place finish, one stroke behind La Salle’s Olivia Williams.

    Adriana Eaton

    Moses Brown, Sophomore

Two seasons into her high school career, it’s clear what type of player Eaton is. The sophomore won the girls golf title as a freshman and had no sophomore slump this past spring. In the state tournament she led after the first day of play and while Eaton battled tough on Day 2, her 72-84 — 156 was good for a third-place finish and should have her hungry to compete next season.

    Emma Lockhart

    Barrington, Freshman

The freshman hardly looked out of place this spring and her play during the regular season and postseason made her a first-team All-Stater. Lockhart handled her nerves well in her first RIIL State Tournament, shooting an 80 on Day 1 and an 84 on Day 2 to finish at 165, good for fifth place and a good start to what looks like a promising career.

    Claire McTaggart

    Barrington, Sophomore

Last year McTaggart played in the girls golf championship, finished fifth and earned a first-team All-State spot. This year the sophomore competed and nearly won the whole thing. McTaggart showed off her game with a 75 on the first day of play at Cranston Country Club and, while she couldn’t find that game on Day 2, her fourth-place finish makes her a viable threat to win it all the next two seasons.

    Katherine Waldorf

    Bay View, Senior

A second-team selection as a junior, Waldorf took the leap in her final RIIL State Tournament to make her debut appearance on the first team. The senior was the Bengals’ top player all season long and, at Cranston Country Club, she put together two solid rounds to finish 84-87 — 161, taking sixth place among girls in the state championship.

    Olivia Williams

    La Salle, Junior

Her first title was sweet, but Williams’ second RIIL Girls Golf Championship may have been sweeter. Trailing by four heading into the final round, Williams found herself tied for the lead at the turn, jumped ahead early in the back nine and then held on to take down the title. This is Williams’ third first-team selection and second Providence Journal Player of the Year award.

    Alexandra Colardo, Cranston West, Sophomore

    Elizabeth Kue, Johnston, Freshman

    Julia Nault, Cumberland, Sophomore

    Hana Shuster, Moses Brown, Junior

    Jordan Vrees, La Salle, Junior
