PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened early Saturday morning.
Police said they were called to the Walmart on Silver Spring Street around 1 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the victim shot inside a large box truck.
A person believed to be the suspect was still at the scene and was taken into custody , according to police.
UPDATE: Alabama man arrested in deadly Providence shooting The victim, who’s only been identified as a 51-year-old man, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“At this time, it appears the shooting was the result of a physical altercation that took place between the suspect and victim, who are known to each other, and were at Walmart to work on the floors,” Providence police wrote in a press release.
A spokesperson from Walmart released a statement saying the company is aware of the incident and working with police on the investigation.
It was the city’s fifth homicide of the year so far.
