PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police continue to investigate a deadly shooting that happened over the weekend in Providence.

Officers responding to the Walmart on Silver Spring Street around 1 a.m. Saturday found a 51-year-old man inside a large box truck who had been shot.

The victim, identified in court records as Eric Campbell, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say 56-year-old Shawn Slaughter, of Alabama, was found at the scene and arrested.

At this time, police say the shooting appears to be a result of a fight between the two men, adding that they knew each other and were at the Walmart to work on the floors.

Slaughter was arraigned Monday on charges of first-degree murder, discharge of a firearm when committing a crime of violence resulting in death, and carrying a firearm without a license or permit. No plea was entered and he was ordered held without bail.
