EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — WPRI 12 announced today that it is hosting a Back to School Supply Drive , encouraging people across Southern New England to donate school supplies in support of schools, students and teachers.
WPRI 12 is partnering with Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses , Ocean State Job Lot , Back to School RI , School on Wheels and the Rhode Island State Police .
Donations can be dropped off now through Friday, Sept. 6, at any Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses location . Monetary donations are also welcome.
“The cost of school supplies can really add up for families,” said Patrick Wholey, VP and General Manager of WPRI 12, FOX Providence, the CW Providence, and myRITV. “We, along with our community partners, want to make sure students across Southern New England have the right tools to start the school year strong and stay successful.”

Back to School of Rhode Island (BTSRI) is a 501 C3 nonprofit organization created to involve parents in the education of their children, thereby helping create an atmosphere of trust and open communication between schools, students and families. In 1999, BTSRI organized its first event in one single location and distributed 600 backpacks full of school supplies to children in the Providence area. In 2022, BTSRI distributed backpacks and school supplies to almost 20,000 students at 12 different sites.
The mission of School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) is to support the academic, social and emotional growth of students impacted by homelessness and poverty. The vision of SOWMA is for all students impacted by homelessness and poverty to have the academic, social and emotional support necessary to achieve a bright and productive future that will help end the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Donations help SOWMA provide fully stocked backpacks to students from kindergarten through college.
