Terrible. What was supposed to be a fun 4th of July celebration yesterday turned terrifying for attendees at the Stadium of Fire event at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, home of the BYU Cougars. Video from the event shows the start of the fireworks show, just after the flyover. But it's immediately clear that something's not right, as instead of going up in the air, several of the shots fire towards the field and into fans in the stands. https://twitter.com/BryceSutton01/status/1809090745275724008 The crowd begins to yell to get organizers' attention, and eventually the show is stopped to provide medical attention to those who were hit by the fireworks. https://twitter.com/alfonzoknows/status/1809133645518811241 According to
KUTV , several people were injured, including one who was seriously injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance after being hit in the face. Altogether, it was reported that six were transported to the hospital, though it wasn't immediately clear how many others were struck or the severity of their injuries. The show was stopped to provide aid to those who were injured, and organizers discussed whether to resume, but eventually things got back underway after a "short delay." Event organizers issued a statement after the incident: “Safety is of the upmost importance to us. All pyrotechnics are thoroughly checked before the show, and were rechecked after the incident. Our thoughts are with those who are impacted by the incident and we are following up with them to make sure they are okay.”
