Tim Barto: Why does Alaska score so low on religious liberty ranking?
Alaska is ranked 49th in the nation for religious freedom, actually below California, which earned a 48th placement. This ranking is conducted by the Center for Religion, Culture & Democracy, and published in a study called Ranking Religious Liberty In The States. The organization has been publishing these studies since 2022, ranking each state from those that offer the most religious liberty (#1) to the least (#50).

Rally for Cancer Care is back at Muskeg Meadows Saturday
The WMC Foundation and Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, SEARHC, will be raising funds at this Saturday’s annual Rally for Cancer Care. The fun and quirky golfing event will be held at Muskeg Meadows, Wrangell’s golf course. Raised funds go towards healthcare scholarships and to support transporting Southeast Alaskans to cancer appointments. We are the Planet Protectors, and we work together to keep the city clean and talk to community members and business owners about how to be more environmentally friendly and respectful towards nature in our small community. We recently paid for a small recycling station for our school thanks to support from our community; we are grateful to the Westmark Hotel and Garden City Markets for their generous donations which made this possible! We make many efforts to help our town become greener. For example, before we purchased the recycling station, we started to collect paper from most classrooms every month and began bringing it up to a recycling facility in Whitehorse.
