The way I understood this is to say that data gathered from treatment of people with BPD suggests the disorder has a primary cause for its development, and as time passes after the event that caused it, symptoms (ie; defensive behaviors and distrust of others and grappling with who you are now that you can exist freely is kinda super reasonable lol) naturally lessen as the person experiences relationships with others and a sense of self and whatnot, and therapy can help speed that all up. So yay, right?
