(PUEBLO, COLO.) — The City of Pueblo is inviting the community to an open house on Tuesday, June 18 to discuss the Unified Development Zoning and Subdivision Codes and Regulations.

The open house will take place at the George William Meeting Room at the Pueblo Parks and Recreation Administration Building located at 800 Goodnight Ave. The discussion will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission is seeking to modernize the city’s zoning code (Title XVII), subdivision code (Title XII, Chapters 4 and 5), and the historic preservation code (Title IV, Chapter 14) for the Pueblo City Council approval. The goal is to establish a Unified Development Code and update the historic preservation code within the city’s Municipal Code of Ordinances.

“We are inviting the public to join us for an open house to talk through the updates of the Unified Development Code,” said Acting Director of Planning and Community Development Scott Hobson. “We understand this can be very technical and sometimes difficult to understand, so we would like to help explain and simplify, if possible, to help the public recognize the changes.”

Input from the community will help identify specific challenges and opportunities to address in the update.

According to the city, the first step in the development of a Unified Development Code will focus on technical analysis of the city’s current zoning, subdivision, and historic preservation codes regulations. The new unified development code will focus on establishing updated codes that modify sections of the current code that are either outdated, complex, or unnecessary.

The revisions are expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months.

“Pueblo residents should plan to attend the Unified Development Code Public Open House to learn about the project and engage in discussions regarding future development in Pueblo,” Hobson said.

During the open house, the project consultants, Multistudio Inc., will identify high-priority topics to be addressed in the code revisions; in addition to conveying key elements of their analysis and receiving feedback on issues identified.
