(PUEBLO/CUSTER COUNTIES, Colo.) — Oak Ridge Fire crews want the community to know how to prepare their homes for wildfires and how to reduce wildfire risks,

On a Facebook post , crews offered information called ‘ The Home Ignition Zone ‘ by the Colorado State Forest Service on how to mitigate your property.

UPDATE: Oak Ridge Fire crews on access to community information

Some practices one can do to reduce structural ignitability include:

    • Removing all leaves, needles, and other debris from all decks, roofs, and gutters.
    • Replace combustible fencing or gates.
    • Dispose of slash from thinning trees and shrubs by chipping or hauling them to a disposal site or piling them in open areas for burning later.
    • Use tempered glass for windows; two or more panes are recommended.

Crews said community members in Beulah can haul and pile their slash at the slash pile site at the Beulah Fire Department station daily. The site is for the removal of woody debris, including limbs and branches.

There will also be a free slash collection for Aspen Acres, San Isabel, and Rye residents on Saturday, June 29 from 8 p.m. to 4 p.m. at mile 1.0 near HWY 165 on SH 78.
