It has been a hot summer so far in Pueblo and with that comes some unbearable heat during the day and night.

What better way to cool off this summer than to enjoy a cold refreshing beer on a hot summer day?

But where can you go to get the best beer in town? Sure, there are plenty of local places that serve beer, but there's nothing better than a hand-crafted beer brewed right here in Pueblo.

Check out these local breweries in town that offer a multitude of different beers on tap for your enjoyment this summer.

    Shamrock Brewing Company

    108 W. 3rd St., Pueblo | 719-542-9974 | shamrockbrewing.com

Shamrock Brewing is located just off Santa Fe Ave. in Midtown and is known as one of the oldest Irish pubs in the state of Colorado. Shamrock specializes in traditional Irish red ales, some blonde ales, stouts, and porters. Some of their most popular beers are the Steel City Gold, which is a year-round golden ale that's light, crisp, and refreshing to the taste, and the Shamrock Irish Red Ale, which is a traditional Irish red with a nice clean bite to it that will leave you wanting more.

Each of these beers pairs well with a variety of food options, including the fish and chips available at this quaint, Irish-style pub. They also have a pretty extensive liquor list, so if beer is not quite your style, or if you bring someone who isn’t a beer drinker, they have a solid list of whiskeys and scotches to choose from.

    Walter's Brewing Company

    126 Oneida St. | 719-542-0766 | waltersbeer.com

Walter's is a traditional brewing company that originally started back in the late 1800s. The brewery was sold in 1975 but after a decades-long hiatus, the business returned in the early 2000s and is back brewing traditional-style lagers and some delicious new combinations as well.

One of their most popular beers is Walter’s Bock, a traditional bock that has a bit of sweetness to it because of the malts used. This is Walter's original standard beer, and they continue to brew it the same way they did back when the brewery was first created.

Another one of its popular beers is the Steel City beer, which is a lager made in the steam beer style which brings a nice balance of hoppiness and sweetness from the malts. Unlike some of the other places on this list, Walter's does not offer a traditional food menu. They do offer some basic bar snacks and have a plethora of food trucks that stop by during the week. Brues Alehouse Brewing Company

    120 Riverwalk Place | 719-924-9670 | bruesalehouse.com

Brues is one of the newest brewing companies here in Pueblo and they offer a variety of different beers to choose from as well as a full food menu. They are well known for their delicious and refreshing beers, and right now in the summertime, there is no better beer to grab than the Brues Especial, a Mexican lager with a crisp, clean finish.

They also specialize in traditional brewing styles, making all their beer the same way that old-school German brewers do. This is one reason why their Kellerbier, also known as a cellar beer, is one of their tastiest selections, providing a nice bite to a traditional lager.

Brues is a great place to hang out this summer and enjoy a great beer selection, and they offer plenty of entertainment, including concerts and live music. Check out the brewery's website for more information on the event lineup.

    Reservoir Brewing Company

    181 S. Purcell Blvd., Pueblo West | 719-647-8864 | reservoirbrewing.com

The newest brewery in -- or at least close to -- town is in Pueblo West. Reservoir Brewing specializes in providing great-tasting beers year-round. They have unique styles available and some of their most popular beers are the Colorado Common (lager) and their Bushwhacked (American IPA). They also have a variety of flavors with their beer selection including their Lizard Elixir, which is a blonde ale made with mango, red bell Peppers, and Pueblo chiles, and their Cherry Creamsicle, a cream ale made with a hint of cherry flavor.

Along with the colorful names for their beers, Reservoir offers a variety of mixed drinks for those who don’t care for beer. They do offer food, with a small selection of sandwiches available, but keep in mind that the location is small, so food orders may take some time to prepare.
