Sunday, July 21, is National Ice Cream Day.

Nothing beats a frozen treat to help Pueblo residents cool down during the dog days of summer, so we've compiled this handy list of Pueblo's ice cream eateries.

From local mom-and-pop shops with outside-the-carton homemade ice cream and shaved ice treats to national chains with tried-and-true frozen confections, Pueblo offers many opportunities for sweet relief from the summer heat.

    Shiver & Shake

Shiver and Shake is a chill new artisan shake and shaved ice business at 1002 N. Market Plaza, Unit F, in Pueblo West, where Owners Andrew and Lisa Diaz use Blue Bell Creameries ice cream and 10-pound blocks of ice to make their cool treats.

Creative items include the Pina-Colada-themed crazy pineapple, strawberry fields, Minion-themed shaved ice treats and so much more. Hours at the shop are noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2-9 p.m. Sunday.

Find out more at shiverandshakeco.com , the business's Facebook page , or the Instagram page .

    Taffy's

Ken and Lynda Connors launched Taffy's 43 years ago and today their son Jeff Connors is the general manager. The store features Blue Bell old-fashioned ice cream in more than 20 flavors, plus vanilla, chocolate and swirl soft-serve ice cream treats.

Ice cream options range from cones, waffle cones, and chocolate-dipped versions to shakes, floats, frosties and parfaits. Taffy's also offers novelty treats and banana splits.

    Located at 114 W. Abriendo Ave., Taffy's is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

    Haz Tu Loco

Located at 1015 W. 29th St., Haz Tu Loco is a minority-owned sister store to one in Aurora.

Mexican-inspired ice cream delights are a big part of the menu. Ice cream cones and milkshakes, fresas con crema (strawberries and cream), mangonadas — which combine mango sorbet and fresh mango topped with a chile-lime salt Tajín and a fermented fruit — and chile chamoy are among its tasty sweet treats.

    Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Call 719-924-9691 for details.

Pueblo has four national chains offering 'ice cream-centric' delights

Remember the days when the Baskin Robbins ice cream chain touted 31 flavors? Well, today it is a mind-numbing 40 and ranges from Jamoca Almond Fudge to Pralines N’ Cream to Pink Bubblegum; plus there are custom or ready-made ice cream cakes among the offerings.

Baskin Robbins has Pueblo County covered with two locations at 2704 S. Prairie Ave. in Pueblo, and 922 Hailey Lane in Pueblo West.

Another national chain in Pueblo is Cold Stone Creamery with a shop located at 4200 N. Freeway Road, Suite 110.

Craving a peanut-buster parfait or a Sonic blast? Dairy Queen and Sonic each have five Pueblo locations.
