(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a confrontation over a stolen bike led to a minor being shot and the Pueblo SWAT team being called out for a barricaded suspect early in July.

According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), 31-year-old Michael Santistevan has been charged with three counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder in connection with a July 7 shooting in the 1700 Constitution Road, near Troy Avenue.

The incident occurred after a father and his two children were out looking for the children’s stolen bike when they spotted what they believed was the bike in front of a home. The father attempted to confront those living in the home when a disturbance occurred.

PPD said shots were fired by a man inside the home as the family was driving away, and a child was hit by a bullet, though their injuries were minor. The child was taken to the hospital after being shot once in the back but they were later released from the hospital. A suspect was not located at the time of the incident, PPD said.

However, police later identified Santistevan as a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued. Santistevan was found walking in the area of Troy Avenue and Oakshire Lane, and after a short chase on foot, he was taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Pueblo County Detention Facility without bond on the three charges of attempted murder.
