Former UW athletic director puts Redmond home up for sale (Photos)
A 6,940-square-foot home in Redmond once owned by former Mariners pitcher Robbie Ray has hit the market for $4.2 million, just two months after it last traded hands.<\p> Troy Dannen, the former University of Washington athletic director, bought the home from Ray in March. It was the home Dannen and his wife, Amy, had been searching for, but before they could settle in, their plans quickly changed.<\p>

Builder: Vying for homesites is 'like a knife fight in a phone booth'
There’s been plenty of public discourse about converting obsolete urban office buildings to residential uses. But what about scraping empty suburban office buildings?<\p> The Puget Sound regional office of national homebuilder Taylor Morrison has four office properties under contract, says Washington division President Pete Lymberis. They’re in Bellevue, Bothell and Kirkland, and could net just over 200 townhomes.<\p>
Real estate tech startup Nexme acquired by Bay Area company
Bellevue-based real estate tech startup Nexme has been acquired by Finaya, another real estate tech startup.<\p> The companies announced the deal Wednesday but didn't disclose financial terms. In an email to the Business Journal, Nexme co-founder Vanessa Alvarez said Nexme's six employees are all joining Palo Alto, California-based Finaya, which now has 10 employees.<\p>
Downtown Seattle's Pacific Place mall has new owner
Downtown Seattle's largest retail property is under new ownership.<\p> Los Angeles-based BH Properties announced it has acquired the 335,000-square-foot Pacific Place mall from Madison Marquette, in what will likely be the biggest retail transaction of the year in the Seattle area. <\p>

Athira names new medical chief ahead of release of key trial data
Bothell-based biopharmaceutical Athira Pharma Inc. (Nasdaq: ATHA) has named Javier San Martin as its chief medical officer.<\p> Athira announced the move as part of its first quarter earnings report Wednesday. San Martin is replacing Hans Moebius, who held the CMO role for nearly five years before retiring in January, as Athira prepares to report data later this year for its lead drug, ATH-1017, and its effects on Alzheimer's patients.<\p>

Matt Garman, a senior vice president for Amazon.com Inc.'s (Nasdaq: AMZN) cloud division, will finally get his turn as CEO three years after his name first surfaced as a likely candidate for the role.<\p> With the June 3 departure of Adam Selipsky, announced Tuesday, Garman steps to the fore at a pivotal moment for Amazon Web Services, as it seeks to keep hold of its market lead amid slowing growth and branches out into generative AI services.<\p>
Construction set for hundreds of homes, retail in downtown Sammamish
A long-held knock against the young city of Sammamish is it lacks a downtown.<\p> There was no there there, and until last decade when the Metropolitan Market-anchored Village at Sammamish Town Center opened, residents typically had to drive to shop and dine. Some mid-rise apartment buildings also were built.<\p>
Pioneer Square Labs adds managing director
Seattle-based startup studio Pioneer Square Labs has added to its leadership team.<\p> On May 8, PSL named Vivek Ladsariya, former general partner at SineWave Ventures, as a managing director. He will mostly focus on leading pre-seed and seed investments with PSL's venture capital arm, PSL Ventures, but he will also help with the startup studio.<\p>
The best and worst industries for finding a job right now
Workers in the market for a new job are finding quick success if they're targeting a select few industries — and, perhaps surprisingly, if they're hunting without the aid of artificial intelligence.<\p> A new survey from Resume Builder of workers hired into new jobs within the last six months paints a picture of workers in food and hospitality, retail, and construction being been able to find jobs quickly. Prospective employees in business and finance, education, and software are having a harder time landing a new job.<\p>
St. Mark's gets boost from NYC parish for affordable housing project
Trinity Church Wall Street has awarded a $150,000 grant to St. Mark's Cathedral to advance plans to redevelop the former St. Nicholas School, a city of Seattle landmark just north of the cathedral that's perched prominently atop Capitol Hill.<\p> St. Mark’s has been working since early 2023 to define the potential and feasibility of the project, and is exploring two options: either entirely new construction or — the preferred option — converting and expanding the historic 1926 part of the St. Nicholas School together with a new addition to create 119 housing units, from studios to three-bedrooms.<\p>

Zuper hires former Icertis executive as chief marketing officer
Seattle-based software startup Zuper has named Seth Nesbitt as chief marketing officer.<\p> Zuper, which made the announcement Wednesday, is hiring Nesbitt after raising a $32 million Series B round in December. Nesbitt is joining Zuper after most recently working at Bellevue-based Icertis, a contract management company that hit a valuation of $5 billion in 2021. <\p>
MG2 acquires Portland firm known for its work on affordable housing
Seattle-based architecture company MG2 on Wednesday announced its acquisition of Portland-based Studio C Architecture.<\p> Studio C is a four-member firm known for its multifamily residential design with a specialty in affordable housing.<\p>
Umpqua Bank parent cuts more than 230 jobs so far this year
Columbia Banking System (Nasdaq: COLB), the Tacoma-based parent Umpqua Bank, has cut 233 employees so far this year.<\p> In first-quarter earnings in April, President and CEO Clint Stein said the company cut its workforce by 91 full-time equivalent positions in the first quarter of 2024, and had told employees of another 142 scheduled to happen in April. That brings the total to 233 so far this year.<\p>
Departing AWS CEO will walk away from millions in compensation
When Amazon.com Inc.'s (Nasdaq: AMZN) cloud chief steps away from the company on June 3, he'll also be walking away about $55 million.<\p> On Tuesday, Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky and Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that Selipsky will leave the company next month. Selipsky has been in the role since 2021, having taken it over from Jassy, who stepped into the top job after founder Jeff Bezos left. Selipsky was a boomerang executive, having left AWS in 2016 to become Tableau's CEO.<\p>
Here's how much Russell Wilson got for his Bellevue mansion
Former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and singer-songwriter Ciara sold their Bellevue waterfront mansion Wednesday for $21.25 million.<\p> The reported sale price is $3.65 million less than the listing price of $24.9 million, but the couple also sold an adjacent property in 2022 for $9.75 million, according to King County records. Altogether the couple's Bellevue estate fetched $31 million.<\p>
