Charlottesville officials warn about SNAP, EBT scammers
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - People buying groceries on government assistance should be on the lookout for scammers, local and state officials are warning. Scams targeting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also commonly called SNAP or food stamps, are on the uptick, according to Virginia Department of Social Services. In particular, officials warn the real target is the Electronic Benefits Transfer card, or EBT, which shoppers use to buy groceries.
Newport News votes to nearly double mayor, council members’ salaries
NEWPORT NEWS — City Council voted 6-1 Tuesday night to nearly double its annual salaries. The mayor is paid $27,000 a year, and the other council members get $25,000 a year.
