Getting older is exciting, but it’s also full of uncharted territory. Hi, menopause . Brain fog . People with opinions and unsolicited advice for your hot flashes. Sleep is elusive . Hormone therapy —what’s that? And, of course, our skin changes , too. Namely, you may notice that your skin is becoming drier, more sensitive and irritated. Or, you may be experiencing acne for the first time since tenth grade. That said, it’s not surprising if your tried-and-true beauty products suddenly revolt. Maybe you’re trying to figure out how to rejig your beauty bag now. And in case you’re searching for the best concealer for mature skin, I’ve talked to three beauty gurus who are 50+. Below, I’ve rounded up 14 solid options, including the Wander Beauty Dualist Matte and Illuminating Concealer ($30) loved by 77-year-old content creator Candace Cima and Danessa Myricks Lift and Flex Concealer ($30) that 56-year-old makeup artist Cherie Gyllenswan swears by. Once you’ve tried these, you’ll be asking, “fine lines, who?”

How I Chose the Best Concealer for Mature Skin

I interviewed Cima, Gyllenswan and Paljevic, asking them to recommend what they believed was the best concealer for mature skin based on their own experiences. Additionally, they also shared the formulations and ingredients they tend to gravitate toward (as well as what to avoid), and I used that information to guide my research for other brands, assessing customer reviews. Finally, since we often experience drier skin as we age, I consulted PureWow beauty and cultures editor Chelsea Candelario’s guide to the best concealers for dry skin for additional editor-approved recommendations.

    1. Wander Beauty Dualist Matte and Illuminating Concealer

    Wander Beauty

“My absolute favorite concealer now is Wander Beauty Dualist Matte and Illuminating Concealer,” Cima raves. “This product has a matte stick at one end and an illuminating wand at the other, making it the perfect product for all areas of the face, not just under the eyes. It’s creamy, blends easily and comes off effortlessly with soap and water." The concealer stick’s ingredients include hyaluronic acid (hydrates), green tea extract (protects against free radicals) and chamomile (soothes).

    2. Typology Tinted Concealer

    Typology

OK, I am not over 50, but I do struggle to find a concealer that doesn’t crease. Most concealers I’ve tried will fall, in varying degrees, into the folds under my eyes. But, after testing Typology’s tinted concealer for several weeks, I’ve been pleasantly surprised that even after a full day, it looks almost as fresh as it did when I first applied it. The formula uses caffeine, niacinamide and cornflower hydrolate to reduce puffiness, but also works wonders in covering up blemishes. It pairs great with the brand’s tinted serum , but my favorite routine is to pat on the concealer and then dust my face with Sweed’s Miracle Power for an effortless, two-minute makeup routine.

    3. Colleen Rothschild Illuminating Tinted Eye Cream

    Colleen Rothschild

While not a concealer, all the experts agree: Skincare lays the best foundation. Gyllenswan tells me her favorite eye cream is the Colleen Rothschild Illuminating Tinted Eye Cream. “It contains hyaluronic acid for hydration and caffeine to address puffiness, as well as pearlized pigments and a light peach tint for some color correction.  I always start my undereye routine with it. On no makeup days, I wear it alone with SPF,” she says. In addition to hyaluronic acid and caffeine, the eye cream also contains peptides to help smooth skin texture. It promises to mitigate under-eye circles, fine lines, dryness and puffiness, and after reading the reviews of the buyers, many of whom are over 50, Colleen Rothschild’s eye cream seems to deliver on those claims.

    4. Maxine’s Revenge French Face Concealer

    Amazon

When it comes to the best concealer for mature skin, Gyllenswan’s money is on the French Face Concealer by Maxine’s Revenge. The brand is female-owned and specifically crafted for women over 40. “What’s better than revenge? Getting even better,” the site proclaims. “We’re makeup junkies who think it’s time for an updated view of beauty 40+.” Gyllenswan describes the French Face Concealer as “a medium-full coverage, ultra-thin formula that’s flexible and moves with the skin so it never creases.” The line is meant to be multi-purpose, acting as a concealer, highlighter and bronzer/contour, depending on the shades you buy. Gyllenswan tells me she has six shades to achieve her desired effect.

    5. Danessa Myricks Lift and Flex Concealer

    Sephora

If Gyllenswan isn’t reaching for Maxine’s Revenge, her other top pick is the Danessa Myricks Lift and Flex Concealer. “It is a medium-full coverage concealer with a soft matte finish,” she notes. “As the name states, it also flexes, which means no creasing. I have this one in a peach shade as well, which is incredible for color correction.” There’s a slew of skin-loving ingredients in the formula, such as caffeine (brighten and tighten), orchid flower extract (luminosity), ku shen extract (discoloration) and purslane extract (inflammation). Gyllenswan says the concealer produces “flawless under-eye coverage.”

    6. Kevyn Aucoin Beauty Sensual Skin Enhancer

    Kevyn Aucoin

Paljevic loves the Kevin Aucoin Beauty Sensual Skin Enhancer, noting that sometimes she’ll mix it with moisturizer to sheer it out. It can simultaneously act as a concealer, color corrector and foundation with high coverage and a natural finish. (It will conceal everything from a blemish to a tattoo.) A blend of jojoba oil, vitamin E and honey give skin a moisture boost, and the brand notes that the best under-eye concealers are Shade 9 (light to medium) and Shade 14 (deeper skin tones). Shade 12 is a great redness corrector.

    7. The [pH]ix Caffeine Eye Cream

    The [pH]ix

Gyllenswan’s other go-to eye cream before applying makeup is The [pH]ix Caffeine Eye Cream. The mix of botanicals, antioxidants and caffeine claims to reduce puffiness, plump skin, fade dark circles and smooth fine lines. Key ingredients are turmeric and eggplant, which help to improve the skin’s elasticity while calming inflammation. Meanwhile, caffeine works to temporarily restrict the area’s blood vessels, which can help reduce the appearance of undereye bags.

    8. Fenty Beauty We’re Even Hydrating Concealer

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4fWiZd_0v3wl0wY00

    Fenty Beauty

“This concealer is not joking around about hydrating and brightening the under eyes,” writes PureWow beauty and cultures editor Chelsea Candelario . “I was in awe that it matched my complexion perfectly (there are 50 shades after all) and gave me a natural finish. It was also so lightweight that I forgot I had it on after a few hours. Overall, it didn’t crease, transfer or budge at all, so it’s definitely a winner in my book.” The fan-favorite concealer promises to hydrate and brighten up the under-eye area without accentuating fine lines and skin texture.

    9. Tower 28 Beauty Swipe Serum Concealer

    Tower 28

“I never have to worry about getting flaky dry patches or having any irritation for the entire day,” Candelario writes about Tower 28’s Beauty Swipe Serum Concealer. “It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump the skin, as well as centella asiatica leaf extract to soothe sensitive skin and lysine to repair and prevent dryness. It’s already been a staple in my routine for the last couple of months and works well on my dry, sensitive skin. It blends well under the eyes and pairs nicely with the Tower 28 SunnyDays Tinted Sunscreen Foundation .”

    10. Kosas Revealer Concealer

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=35t0ut_0v3wl0wY00

    Kosas

“It’s super creamy, so it applies and blends out like a dream. After taking Accutane in college, my skin changed a lot, so now I have combination skin that undergoes bouts of dry spells very easily,” says PureWow associate fashion commerce editor Stephanie Meraz . “Whenever I use this formula, it doesn’t cause my skin to wither up and crack like so many others do. In fact, it feels ultra-hydrating, most likely thanks to the hyaluronic acid and peptides in there. (And they recently added a handful of new shades, so there’s finally an option that matches the undertones in my skin.)”

    11. Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3xxT4B_0v3wl0wY00

    Sephora

“I will never not recommend this concealer. It’s got such a creamy consistency and blends like a dream. The product is wonderful and offers full coverage, which is my jam,” says PureWow commerce editor Olivia Dubyak . That means you can say goodbye to everything from dark circles and blemishes to hyperpigmentation. The concealer has a natural finish and promises up to 16 hours of wear without a crease in sight.

    12. Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Concealer

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=06FsBp_0v3wl0wY00

    Giorgio Armani Beauty

“It’s quite expensive for a concealer (IMO), but the Armani Luminous Silk is just as good as the matching foundation . It’s blendable and buildable, and most importantly, doesn’t cling to dry patches like the ones that linger after a pimple goes away,” says PureWow senior food editor Katherine Gillen . The concealer offers lightweight, high coverage with glycerin, caffeine and vitamin E that work to depuff and brighten the skin.

    13. Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0CQ34M_0v3wl0wY00

    Sephora

“My under-eyes get so dry, especially during the winter months. This concealer offers great coverage and hydration without looking too dewy or shiny. It’s also a longwear formula that layers beautifully over my eye cream without slipping or creasing,” says PureWow executive managing editor Catrina Yohay . The Charlotte Tilbury concealer is packed with niacinamide, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and peptides to brighten and even out the complexion. You can also use the product three ways: as a concealer to cover blemishes, a brightener to liven up the skin under your eyes and a contouring shade to sculpt your features.

    14. Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Concealer

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=1Ts3Ex_0v3wl0wY00

    Haus Labs

I tried Lady Gaga’s viral concealer and would say it comes in a close second to my favorite Typology concealer. It creases minimally and contains both niacinamide and hyaluronic acid to plump, brighten and hydrate the skin. There’s an extensive shade range and the coverage is buildable with a solid color payoff. Though many concealers tend to look patchy or cakey on my skin, this doesn’t, making it a winner in my beauty bag. And I should mention that it’s highly rated across the board, with a nearly five-star average rating—including with those 50+.

How to Choose a Concealer for Mature Skin

Speaking with Cima, Gyllenswan and Paljevic, all agreed that as we age, our skin gets drier and loses elasticity. That means that products you may have been leaning on for years might not work anymore.

“I have had to make a lot of changes regarding how I approach makeup on my 56-year-old, mature skin,” Gyllenswan shares. “I find that as we mature, less is more. I tend to like products that contain skincare ingredients and innovation and have skin-like finishes. I no longer wear heavy, full coverage products as I think they age us, and I don’t touch up with powders. These days I opt for balms or under-eye oils in small amounts for midday touchups. It is all about hydration when you’re over 50.”

So, when shopping for the best concealer for mature skin, Paljevic advises choosing one with hyaluronic acid for a moisture boost, also noting that cream formulations are best. “Avoid using matte foundations or full-coverage products that tend to settle into fine lines and pores,” she says. “Light coverage foundations still provide great coverage for any problem areas without highlighting skin texture.”

Cima echos Paljevic’s advice, saying, “As I age, I find that a foundation with lighter coverage is more flattering than a heavy formula that looks like a mask.” Gyllenswan adds that rather than choosing a brighter concealer, she matches the shade to her skin tone instead so she doesn’t direct more attention to the area.
