Sarah Ferguson is celebrating International Dog Day by giving fans a glimpse of her special bond with Queen Elizabeth 's surviving corgis .

Yesterday, the Duchess of York, 64, shared a sweet throwback photo of herself playing with Sandy and Muick while lying in the grass. She wrote, "Wishing you and all your furry friends a Happy #InternationalDogDay. For all the unconditional love, loyalty, and joy they bring into our lives, Sandy and Muick will be getting an extra treat on their special day!"

Fans took to the comments to celebrate the two pups and thanked the royal for taking them in. One follower said, "Thank you for taking care of the queen's dogs that meant so much to her." Another added, "What an adorable photo! I'm sure Queen Elizabeth is happy that you are taking wonderful care of her furbabies!"

If the snap looks familiar, it's because the duchess previously posted the same photo in October 2022, while celebrating her 63rd birthday. In the since-deleted post, she simply wrote, "The presents that keep giving."

The duchess had also followed up with a slideshow of candid shots from the same moment, featuring photos of her hugging and playing with the pups. (Unfortunately, this post was also removed.)

However, just one year after the queen's passing, Fergie shared another rare glimpse of Sandy and Muick on social media.

She wrote, "As we mourn a year on, we also celebrate the wonderful times we shared with Her Late Majesty the Queen. She entrusted me with the care of her corgis Sandy and Muick and I am delighted to say they are thriving."

One fan responded, "That’s so lovely of you to take care of her fur babies hope your enjoying them. What an honor."

If you recall, CNN reported in 2022 that the beloved corgis would fall under the care of Fergie and her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, who both reside at the Royal Lodge in Windsor. And this came as no surprise, given that these dogs were originally gifted to the queen by the prince and his two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Per The Telegraph , Ferguson and the queen had developed a special bond before the monarch’s death, thanks in part to her many corgis. A close source said, “The Duchess bonded with Her Majesty over dog walking and riding horses and, even after her divorce, she would continue her great friendship with Her Majesty, by walking the dogs in Frogmore and chatting.”

I'm sure the queen would be proud.
