Naomi Osaka is back at the U.S. Open, and she's not just serving up aces, she's also serving looks.

In her tennis-core look with a touch of cottage-core and doll-like fantasy, Osaka channeled a "magical girl" aesthetic—a nod to a popular Japanese trope where young women transform into superheroines.

The 26-year-old tennis star strutted out in a lime green skirt with a playful puff of white tulle underneath, paired with a white crop top jacket featuring a giant green bow on the back. Even her headphones and equipment bag were decked out with matching little bows.

When it was time to play, she unveiled a sleeveless lime green ensemble with a white waistband and ruffled skirt, complete with a white bow on the back. Topping it off? A green visor and sleek white-and-green Nike kicks.

"There’s a moment of transformation for me when I walk onto the court," she explained in a Nike press statement per CNN . "I have a lot of fun playing, so wanting everyone who sees the outfit to connect with that feeling is a really big motivation for me."

Her outfit was crafted in collaboration with Nike and Japanese designer Yoon Ahn, founder of Tokyo label Ambush.

"Yoon is so nice," Osaka shared during a post-match interview . "She accepted doing this project, and we've kind of been, like, talking about it for a few years now. So just to be able to wear it and see it come to life and see that people are excited to see it, yeah, it's really cool."

Drawing inspiration from Harajuku, Tokyo’s iconic fashion district, Osaka’s look is a love letter to her Japanese roots. But beyond the visual impact, this outfit is a testament to Osaka’s journey back to the court after giving birth to her daughter , Skai, in July 2023.

Her return hasn’t been without its challenges. In a recent Instagram post, she opened up about the difficulty of adjusting to her postpartum body , admitting, "My biggest issue is that I don’t feel like I’m in my body."

But fashion, for Osaka, is more than just fun—it’s empowering. Before stepping onto the court, she embraced her bold look, telling herself, “Embrace this maximalist style.” She sees her outfit as a “super suit,” a source of strength and confidence that helps her channel the energy she needs to compete.

And compete she did. On Tuesday, Osaka secured a major victory, defeating Latvia's Jeļena Ostapenko in the first round. This win marked her first against a Top 10 player in over four years—an impressive feat for the 88th-ranked player and a triumphant return to the New York City tournament after taking last year off.
