This Denzel Washington Serial Killer Thriller on Netflix Also Stars His Real-Life Daughter

Denzel Washington ’s daughter Olivia Washington is following in her father’s footsteps in a big way.

Let’s rewind to 2021 when Denzel starred in The Little Things , a crime thriller where he played Deputy Sheriff Joe "Deke" Deacon. Teaming up with Rami Malek’s character, Detective Jim Baxter, they go on a tense hunt for a serial killer in Los Angeles.

The movie, now streaming on Netflix , also features Jared Leto—and an appearance by Denzel’s real-life daughter, Olivia Washington. She plays Amy Anders, but to find out more about her role, you’ll have to watch it for yourself.

If you’re on the fence about pressing play, here’s a little nudge: Director John Lee Hancock revealed some intriguing details about the film’s jaw-dropping ending (don’t worry, no spoilers here).

In a February 2021 chat with Entertainment Weekly , Hancock said, “I always felt there would be a section of the audience that would prefer a very formulaic ending, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I wanted to try and do something that was different.”

Initially released in theaters, The Little Things later hit Netflix and has been climbing the ranks ever since. It even snagged the top spot on Netflix’s movie list for a solid week earlier this year, beating out heavy hitters like Happy Gilmore , Glass and Baby Driver .

But Olivia’s role in The Little Thing s is far from her first rodeo. She honed her craft at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and scored her first role in Lee Daniels’s 2013 film The Butler . Since then, she’s racked up credits in hit shows like Empire and Chicago P.D ., and has taken on more substantial roles in projects like The Tragedy of Macbeth and the 2022 film Breaking —which, fun fact, was co-produced by her sister, Katia, and starred John Boyega and Nicole Beharie.

And Olivia isn’t the only Washington sibling making waves in Hollywood. Her older brother, John David Washington, has been killing it with roles in the HBO series Ballers , Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and the moody drama Malcolm & Marie alongside Zendaya .

Clearly, the Washingtons are a seriously talented crew, and we are absolutely here for it.
