Kate Middleton and Crew Were Spotted at This Oh-So-British 'Chippy' Haunt

What is more quintessentially British than the royal family? That answer would be fish and chips . In fact, according to Hello! , Kate Middleton and her three children,  Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, were recently spotted at a favorite "chippy" restaurant (that's fish and chips, btw) in a Norfolk beach town.

This past Sunday, the Princess of Wales, 42, made a surprise appearance attending a service at Crathie Kirk Church on the Balmoral Estate , King Charles's royal residence in the Scottish Highlands. Since the mid-19th-century, the royal family has taken to the beautiful estate, with grounds that include 50,000 acres and 150 buildings, to enjoy the natural surroundings. This year, King Charles and Queen Camilla have continued the tradition of wrapping up summer at Balmoral. It makes sense that Will and Kate joined the party, which likely includes, in addition to grouse hunting , according to Princess Eugenie in the documentary, Our Queen at Ninety , “Walks, picnics, dogs—a lot of dogs, there’s always dogs—and people coming in and out all the time."

But before Kate's first high-brow visit to Balmoral since she announced her cancer diagnosis , the duchess allowed for some low-brow reprieve. As reported by Hello! , a "holiday homeowner in Norfolk spoke to UK holiday provider, Parkdean Resorts, and revealed they had seen Kate and the children visiting Eric’s Fish and Chip Shop in Thornham, Norfolk." Before the Scotland visit, apparently the Wales family took in some much-deserved seaside air at Anmer Hall, their coastal Norfolk home, where they lived during the brunt of the pandemic.

Just a peek at Eric's Fish and Chip Shop has me salivating. The menu is replete with various types of fish (cod, haddock, hake, plaice) beer battered and fried in beef drippings. The casual restaurant even offers gluten-free and vegan options. And, at least based on my research watching The Great British Bake Show , it wouldn't be British without a black pudding offering. This one, of course, is beer battered. While we don't know exactly what the royal family noshed on, we can be sure it probably just hit the spot.
