As soon as people walk into my basement, it’s one of the first things they notice. Despite the fact that there’s an inflatable bounce house down there, a Mount Everest-sized pile of laundry next to my washer and dryer and a piñata that looks exactly like me (a gag gift that feels too sadistic to break open). It’s a circus down there, for sure, but what people can’t stop staring at is…my wall of Bath & Body Works candles.

They span three rows of shelves—many remnants from the day, six years ago, when Bath & Body Works’s PR team sent me more than two dozen fall candles to try. I didn’t consider myself a candle person then, but before long, I started burning them daily—and I soon developed favorites. Since then, I’ve somehow become the kind of person who pours her own candles, who obsessively buys new brands and scents, and yet, I keep coming back to Bath & Body Works. (I realize I’m one candle TikTok away from becoming a meme, but I gave up on cringe shame a long time ago.)

The Best Bath & Body Works Fall Candles, at a Glance

Why Do I Keep Buying These Candles?!

No matter which scents you buy, Bath & Body Works candles are incredibly consistent in terms of quality. The soy-based candles burn evenly—it’s rare to have a tunnel of unused wax along the edges—with an incredible throw that can fill a room. Plus, when there’s a $12.95 sale, how can you argue with that kind of deal?

This year, Bath & Body Works is selling a whopping 65 fall candles. With so many to choose from, often with such subtle variations in names (Are you more Sweater Weather , Together Weather or Cuddle Weather ? Warm Apple Pie or Apple Crisp?), where do you even begin? After sniffing and burning through dozens, here are the ones I’d recommend, based on their scent blend and strength (or throw), when lit and unlit.

14 Long-Lasting Candles That Smell So Good, You’ll Want Them in Every Room

The 10 Best Fall Candles at Bath & Body Works, Reviewed

    1. Pumpkin Pecan Waffles

    Bath & Body Works

It’s fall. You’re shopping at Bath & Body Works. You know what you’re in for—and you should lean into it. This is like digging into a stack of pumpkin waffles at brunch while unabashedly rocking your lululemons and slouchy socks and yes, dammit, that plaid shacket that screams fall but also keeps you cozy. The maple! The brown sugar! The pumpkin spice! Light it up and your morning is already off to a great start, even if the closest you’re getting to a shortstack is a half-frozen Eggo.

    2. Mountain Teakwood

    Bath & Body Works

Bath & Body Works is known for its fruity and bakery-inspired scents, but lately, the brand’s been getting into more elevated, musky fragrances, and I am here for it. Sweater Weather’s eucalyptus notes feel like an assault to the senses for me, but in this candle, they’re more muted, evened out with a touch of teakwood and “crisp mountain air.” It’s as close to camping as any indoorsy type would want to get.

    3. Together Weather

    Bath & Body Works

Sweater Weather isn’t just a basic fall phrase—it’s the name of one of Bath & Body Works’s most famous fall scents. And the name itself must be popular enough to warrant two very differently scented spinoffs, Cuddle Weather (not to be confused with the 2019 sex-worker movie of the same name) and Together Weather.

While Sweater is heavy on eucalyptus and Cuddle is all gingerbread tea and shortbread, Together Weather gets my vote for combining cedar and cardamom for a woodsy-warming blend that’s relaxing and mellow.

    4. Leaves

    Bath & Body Works

Another iconic Bath & Body Works scent, Leaves is the essence of fall, captured in wax: red apple, golden nectar and cloves. It’s for people who spend all of July waiting for autumn. Light it up. Live your life, fall fiends.

    5. Caramel Pumpkin Swirl

    Bath & Body Works

While White Pumpkin skews perfume-y and sultry-spicy, Caramel Pumpkin Swirl is heavy on the caramel and brown sugar notes. It’s decadent and gourmand-inspired; the type of candle you burn when you want everyone to think you’ve spent all afternoon baking when really you just hit up the Publix bakery.

    6. Harvest Gathering

    Bath & Body Works

Just like pumpkin, when it comes to apple, it goes two ways: bakery or fresh off the tree. This scent is the latter, with apple, berry and clove notes. It’s lightly sweet, but it’ll remind you more of wandering through the Honeycrisp and Granny Smith trees on a dewy September morning spent apple picking and leaf peeping.

    7. White Pumpkin

    Bath & Body Works

If all the cinnamon around the holidays is too potpourri-ish for your tastes—or you like pumpkin, but not in a muffins-and-cupcakes kind of way—give White Pumpkin a try. It’s Bath & Body Works’s more sophisticated take on the gourd, thanks to its strong ginger and caramel notes. It’s like that friend who prefers camel cashmere to plaid shackets and pumpkin cold brew to PSLs .

    8. Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin

    Bath & Body Works

Let’s be honest: When people rave about fall scents, particularly pumpkin spice, they’re often raving about cinnamon. There’s no shortage of the seasoning in Bath & Body Works’s 2024 lineup, but it comes across the best in Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin. Clove, brown sugar and vanilla soften the spice, creating a warm, cozy atmosphere.

    9. Flannel

    Bath & Body Works

Consider it the fall equivalent of sun-drenched linen. Mahogany and musk give this a light, aftershave-like scent, which is rounded out (and elevated from giving off Old Spice vibes) with citrusy bergamot notes.

    10. Honey Wildflower

    Bath & Body Works

Skip Whipped Honey—it has an almost medicinal scent—in favor of this more floral take on the fragrance. It’s lighter and more delicate than Bath & Body Works’s typical fare, making it best for anyone who prefers the occasional whiff of a scent, rather than being cocooned in it.
