Another Royal Wedding Took Place This Weekend & There Were Several Familiar Faces in Attendance

Princess Theodora is fresh off the heels of a fabulous Greek wedding—and I imagine the Portokalos family would be proud.

On September 28, the 41-year-old princess tied the knot with her fiancé, Matthew Kumar, in a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation in Athens. The royal wedding was led by His Eminence Metropolitan of Syros, Dorotheos II, and several royal family members, including Theodora's siblings, participated in the event. Crown Prince Pavlos , Prince Nikolaos, Prince Philippos and Prince Achilleas-Andreas served as groomsmen, while Princess Maria-Olympia and Arrietta Morales de Grecia served as bridesmaids.

The royal family released a statement on their official website that reads, "The couple's desire to have their wedding in Athens reflects their love for Greece, the strong ties they maintain with the country and their desire to share Greek culture and hospitality and identity with their guests."

The princess and Kumar announced their engagement in November 2018, and to mark the occasion, the royal shared romantic black-and-white photos on Instagram and wrote, "Words can’t express our happiness and excitement. I can’t wait to marry this wonderful man. I love you, Matt."

The royal wedding was originally set to take place in May 2020, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Instagram, the princess told her followers , "On what should have been our wedding weekend—the love and support from friends and family have been so appreciated. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you in Greece once it’s safe xx."

However, their nuptials were delayed a second time in 2023, shortly after the passing of Princess Theodora's father , Constantine II of Greece.

According to Hello! magazine , the newlyweds hosted an intimate pre-wedding event at the Byzantine Museum, which included close friends and family. Queen Sofia of Spain, Princess Benedikte, Queen Anne-Marie, Crown Prince Pavlos, Crown Princess Marie-Chantal and their children were among the guests who attended.
