Royal Body Language Expert Examines King Charles at Latest Event: Something ‘I Don’t Think We’ve Seen’

Just because King Charles is the head of the Commonwealth doesn’t mean he can’t let loose every once in a while—like he did during his recent royal outing.

This week, the 75-year-old king hosted a special reception at St. James's Palace to celebrate the Commonwealth Diaspora. During the event, the monarch and his wife, Queen Camilla , received a Samoan dancing lesson from the U.K.’s honorary consul for Samoa, Freddie Tuilagi. And according to body language expert Darren Stanton, King Charles appeared “completely relaxed” while learning the moves—something we rarely see from the monarch.

“This is a fantastic footage piece of Charles and Camilla,” Stanton told PureWow (on behalf of Betfair Slots ). “They come across extremely humble, and I don’t think we’ve seen Charles so willing to get involved. He’s really looking to immerse himself as much as possible. In the past, he's always been quite stoic and professional. He often keeps his distance, but this footage shows that he isn't afraid to have a laugh and make fun of himself.”

The expert continued, “When you look at him with Camilla, she’s got a massive smile on her face, which she generally always does. It’s clear that she’s happy to let Charles take center stage and have the limelight.”

Stanton also noted King Charles’s body language and how he appeared genuinely interested in the dance lesson. “Whilst taking part in the Samoan dance lesson, it was really interesting to see Charles make the hand gestures—he really wanted to get involved. He’s got a massive smile across his face, with laugh lines and crow's feet,” he explained. “It was genuine emotion he was showing here, and the guests were loving the fact he was there. He’s not distancing himself, he wanted to embrace the essence of what the event is about.”

“Overall, it’s a great piece of footage that shows the King at his best, being himself, relaxed, his shoulders down,” Stanton added. “There’s no sign of nerves, playing with cufflinks or hands in his pockets. He’s willing to have a bit of a laugh at himself, be down to earth and be completely humble. They both appear genuinely happy to be there.”

Looks like the monarch has moves.
