Sound the Alarm? The Vikings’ WR3 Spot and The Need for Worry
The Athletic put together a piece detailing one area of worry for each of the NFL’s 32 teams. Minnesota’s section brings things around to the Vikings’ WR3 spot. No doubt, it’s an area with plenty of uncertainty. Brandon Powell is the lead contender to take the job but he’s not alone in the race. Recently, PurplePTSD‘s Janik Eckardt discussed the speedy Jalen Nailor and there has also been some chatter about UDFA Jeshaun Jones, Thayer Thomas, and Malik Knowles (among others). How worrisome is that compeition?
Once-Promising Vikings Linebacker Has Apparently Been Demoted
The defensive scheme has been fascinating since the Minnesota Vikings hired Brian Flores in February of 2023. Flores wants to put pressure on opposing passers, primarily by adding extra rushers to the usual four. Linebackers, safeties, and cornerbacks can be seen in the backfield all game. On the other hand, he also features a league-high percentage of snaps with only three pass-rushers.
The Rise of Ivan Pace Continues
It has been a fun journey thus far for Vikings fans and their undrafted linebacker out of Cincinnati. When Minnesota parted ways with longtime linebacker Eric Kendricks in the 2023 campaign, the remaining players were Jordan Hicks coming off an underwhelming season, special teamer Troy Dye, and backup Brian Asamoah. This shaky group raised some concerns.
Predicting Each Vikings’ Starter’s Madden NFL 25 Rating: Secondary Edition
We’re back with another installment of my official Madden NFL 25 rating predictions for the purple and gold, and this time, we’re covering the secondary. The first time we looked at the offensive skill positions, at the beginning of that piece, I went over all of the details about how Madden ranks their players, and I would recommend going over that if you aren’t familiar with it.
Speedy Vikings WR Challenged by Kevin O’Connell
Training camp is the next key date on the schedule for the Minnesota Vikings. The rookies will arrive on July 21st at TCO Performance Center in Eagan, Minnesota, while the veterans will have two more vacation days. Fans can watch the rookies and free agent additions on the field for the first time, and the players compete for roster spots and roles on the team.
For the Vikings, It’s About J.J. and Jets Walking in Lockstep
For the Vikings, the ideal world will involve J.J. McCarthy and Justin Jefferson setting Minnesota’s passing attack ablaze. The rookie passer is currently the backup in Minnesota, but the plan is to hand things over before too long. One would assume that 2025 is the target goal with the possibility of even earlier if all the stars align. Meanwhile, Jefferson is coming off of his huge extension, so he’ll be leaned on to be Minnesota’s leader moving forward.
The Vikings’ Offensive Projection Before Training Camp
Over the past little bit, I’ve been unveiling a position-by-position roster projection for the Vikings. Things have begun on Kevin O’Connell’s side of the ball. The Vikings’ pre-training camp roster projection includes a total of twenty-five players for offense. Keeping things to that limit leaves the defense with twenty-five slots and then there are three remaining slots for the special teams. Consider how things are looking so far.
Predicting Each Vikings Starter’s Madden NFL 25 Rating: Skill Positions Edition
It’s mid-June, meaning the hype train for EA Sports’ latest installment of their yearly NFL-licensed video game is speeding along the rails after they released the official Madden NFL 25 reveal trailer earlier this week. While Madden surely is a polarizing topic amongst NFL fans as everyone has a very passionate opinion on the rather iffy product over the past couple of years, every single person who plays the game loves to speculate about their team’s players’ potential rankings.
There Are 4 Key Dates on the Calendar for the Minnesota Vikings
The offseason has been tumultuous for the Minnesota Vikings, and the roster will look much different in the upcoming 2024 season. Kirk Cousins’ departure opened the door for the organization’s most significant change since he joined the team in 2018, outside of the coaching and front office moves in 2022.
New PFF Article Ranks Vikings’ Receiving Corps 6th, but Why Not Higher?
Pro Football Focus has been a roll with their rankings lately, covering different positions, entire rosters, and fantasy football sleepers. This time, Trevor Sikkema ranks the NFL’s best receiving corps by both depth and top-end talent. The Vikings’ Big Three. The Vikings’ receiving corps is arguably their strongest...
3 Young Vikings Defenders Are in Trouble
The main attraction in Minnesota’s training camp will undoubtedly be rookie passer J.J. McCarthy. Fans want to see whether the first-rounder shows some flashes and can become the franchise’s savior. The spotlight will be on the competition between him and Sam Darnold, although Darnold is heavily favored to lead the team in Week 1.
The Vikings’ Offensive Line is Close to Locked In
Prior to training camp, I’ll be working through a position-by-position roster projection. The fifth installment in the series is going to consider the offensive line, a spot that has long been a thorn in Minnesota’s side. Thankfully, things appear rosier for the Vikings’ offensive line than they have...
The View from VT: WR3 Frontrunner, New Record Breaker, and Quiet Former Viking
Vikings Territory works in partnership with PurplePTSD, similarly doing their utmost to put forth excellent Minnesota Vikings content. As a result, we promote what they have to offer in “The View from VT,” a weekly piece. Take a look at five of their articles from the past week.
First-Time Pro Bowlers? The Vikings Employ 2 Candidates.
Only three players rostered by the 2023 Minnesota Vikings were selected to be part of the annual Pro Bowl games. Pass-rusher Danielle Hunter recorded a career-high 16.5 sacks in his ninth campaign with the Vikings. Long snapper Andrew DePaola joined him on his trip for the second consecutive season, and fullback C.J. Ham was an alternative for Kyle Juszczyk, who missed the event because his 49ers reached the Super Bowl.
Last Year’s Vikings Draft Pick Needs a Big August
The 2023 draft class has been more impactful than Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s first group in charge of Minnesota’s draft picks. It featured Jordan Addison, the only pick in the top 100. After an up-and-down offseason with the infamous speeding incident and an injury absence because of a concussion, he turned into a wonderful partner for Justin Jefferson.
Familiar Free-Agent Idea Makes a Comeback for Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings have been quite active in free agency. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah used his third offseason to add talent to the defense, especially pass-rushers Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel, who are asked to be difference-makers. Blake Cashman has been an underrated addition. The Minnesota native experienced his breakout season in Houston’s 2023 defense and the Vikings hope for continued growth.
Did the Vikings Drop the Ball?
How does some pass-rushing help at defensive tackle sound?. Last year, Brian Flores did some excellent work with (at best) an average group of talent. Did the Vikings drop the ball by not picking up a well-respected veteran to add to his arsenal?. Earlier in the week, the Miami Dolphins...
The Kwesi Adofo-Mensah 5th-Year Option Tracker
Truth be told, the Kwesi Adofo-Mensah 5th-year option tracker may be the easiest of the bunch within The Vikings Archive. For the most part, Minnesota makes a 1st-Round selection on a yearly basis. Those incoming players then have a 5th-year option attached to their deals, setting them up as being a bit unique in comparison to other drafted players. Kwesi Adofo Mensah, the GM who is heading into Year 3 on the job, is the one primarily responsible for deciding whether to pick up the option.
It’s Super Bowl or Bust for One Vikings Defender
The Minnesota Vikings have famously never won the big game, and four games have remained in the loss column since the 1970s. As an organization, the Vikings have come close a few times since the glorious Bud Grant days but failed to make it to the Super Bowl. Still, the last three times the team reached the NFC Championship game were in the seasons of 1998, 2009, and 2017, roughly once per decade.
Where Do Things Stand on the Vikings’ QB Trade Rumors?
Right now, the conversation is almost entirely dominated by Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy. Did we expect anything different?. The former got added in free agency for a single season and $10 million. Not too long afterwards, the latter got tossed into the quarterback room. At No. 10 in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Vikings scooped up Mr. McCarthy, giving the franchise an upside passer to build around for the future. The Vikings’ QB trade rumors simply build off of the realities established in those basic details about Darnold and McCarthy.
