It’s Super Bowl or Bust for One Vikings Defender
The Minnesota Vikings have famously never won the big game, and four games have remained in the loss column since the 1970s. As an organization, the Vikings have come close a few times since the glorious Bud Grant days but failed to make it to the Super Bowl. Still, the last three times the team reached the NFC Championship game were in the seasons of 1998, 2009, and 2017, roughly once per decade.
Where Do Things Stand on the Vikings’ QB Trade Rumors?
Right now, the conversation is almost entirely dominated by Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy. Did we expect anything different?. The former got added in free agency for a single season and $10 million. Not too long afterwards, the latter got tossed into the quarterback room. At No. 10 in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Vikings scooped up Mr. McCarthy, giving the franchise an upside passer to build around for the future. The Vikings’ QB trade rumors simply build off of the realities established in those basic details about Darnold and McCarthy.
Young Vikings Defender Expresses Love for MIN, Mostly Evades Extension Topic
Young Vikings defender Camryn Bynum is a good football player, often showing great range and explosiveness in the deep area of the field. He can also be quite nimble while talking to the media. Not too long ago, the safety was asked about his status with the Vikings since he’s...
Vikings Must Pick Between 2 Redundancies
The list of departed Vikings players in the 2024 offseason is quite long. Most notable were obviously the exits of the two four-time Pro Bowlers, Danielle Hunter and Kirk Cousins. The former left for his hometown, Houston, and has been replaced by free agents Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel. Rookie first-rounder Dallas Turner is supposed to step into his footsteps long-term.
It’s a New Position for a Vikings Specialist
Two rookies from general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s second draft class significantly impacted the team in their first campaign. Jordan Addison was forced to take over for Justin Jefferson as the top outside option, and he ultimately logged ten touchdowns and over 900 receiving yards. At the same time, linebacker Ivan Pace played roughly 700 snaps on defense and starred in all facets of linebacker play after some labeled him exclusively as a pass-rusher.
The Vikings’ WR Battle Seems Sure to Have a Couple Odd Twists and Turns
Prior to training camp, I’ll be working through a position-by-position roster projection. The fourth installment in the series is going to consider wide receiver, one of the great positions in Vikings history. The Vikings’ WR battle bears no suspense at the very top. The only thing capable of slowing...
Vikings Should Put 1 Item at the Top of the Wishlist
When free agency kicked off in the 2024 offseason, the Minnesota Vikings had a bunch of holes to fill, including some crucial positions. Kirk Cousins departed, leaving Minnesota without a capable starter under center, and the exits of Marcus Davenport, D.J. Wonnum, and, most notably, Danielle Hunter left the pass-rushing group in shambles.
Former Vikings Kicker Gets Axed by the Packers
Well, the journey continues for the former Vikings kicker. Jack Podlesny was briefly with the Vikings last offseason. He was brought aboard as part of the UDFA haul to function as competition for Greg Joseph. In a strange twist of irony, Joseph has beat him out once again as Green Bay has decided to move on. The word comes courtesy of KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson: “#Packers released Jack Podlesny.”
Sophomore Vikings Defender Has Been Impressive
Brian Flores enters his second season in charge of Minnesota’s defense. The coordinator was a longtime assistant of future Hall of Famer Bill Belichick in New England before he was appointed head coach in Miami. The Dolphins fired him after three seasons, although he guided the team to the first consecutive winning seasons in two decades.
Vikings to Jump Into Joint Practices Once Again
The ties between Minnesota and Cleveland are alive and well. Earlier in the offseason, the Vikings saw Jordan Hicks become just the latest defender to hop over to the Browns’ defense, joining Dalvin Tomlinson and Za’Darius Smith in the process. And, of course, there’s the presence of Kevin Stefanski as the head coach in Cleveland, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah getting hired out of Cleveland, and so on. Add it all up and joint practices seem like a no brainer.
Vikings Continue to Bolster the Defensive Line
The Minnesota Vikings have revamped their defensive group entering the second season with defensive coordinator Brian Flores. While Danielle Hunter’s departure after four Pro Bowls was a gut punch to the organization, the pass-rushing crew could still be one of the team’s strong suits in 2024 following the signings of free agents Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel in addition to drafting Alabama’s star defender Dallas Turner in the first round.
My Next Chapter on PurplePTSD
This is my first article on Purple PTSD. Still, it is a continuation of my journey rather than a new beginning after roughly 1,600 pieces about my favorite football team on Vikings Territory, the website’s sister site. And I’m doing so as PPTSD’s new Managing Editor. From this point on, I will contribute to both VT and PPTSD.
Vikings Roster Unfavorably Ranked by PFF
PFF’s Jim Wyman and Dalton Wasserman have released their 2024 NFL Roster rankings, listing every team from 1-32 and ranking them on their talent. They also list each team’s biggest strength and weakness in 2023, their X-Factor and rookie to watch for 2024 and give their prediction for each team’s over/under projection from the sportsbooks.
Lewis Cine. What’s the Best Case for the Vikings’ Embattled Safety?
At this stage, the 5th-year option for Lewis Cine feels about as likely as being unable to find caffeine at Caribou Coffee. The wild thing, though, is that Minnesota will need to make the call on that decision next offseason. Is Cine even on the roster at that point?. The...
Vikings Rumors: McCarthy Already Better, A New Buzzword, and Jefferson’s Extension Obliterator
Even though we’re officially into the portion of the year when Vikings rumors are slowing down, we’ll still be highlighting some of the purple rumblings. The “Vikings Rumor Wrangle” is a series that keeps readers informed on what’s being whispered about in Vikings Land. In this iteration, we discuss J.J. McCarthy already being the better quarterback, the new buzzword for Brian Flores’ defense, and Justin Jefferson’s extension obliterating all challengers.
Yet Another Former Viking Joins Forces with Cousins in Atlanta
Maybe Kirk Cousins has a bit of a gravitational pull. Per Aaron Wilson, another former Viking is taking his talents down to Georgia. Corner Harrison Hand, originally drafted by Minnesota in the 5th Round of the 2020 NFL Draft, is now a Falcon: “#Falcons sign Harrison Hand cut Anthony Sao.”
Vikings Say Goodbye to Young Receiver, Find Immediate Replacement Along D-Line
Credit to Aaron Wilson for the news on both fronts. The reporter with KPRC2 passed along the word that the Vikings have moved on from UDFA receiver Devron Harper. Doing so opens a roster spot that has been immediately filled. Per Wilson, a defensive tackle is getting added: “#Vikings to sign defensive tackle Jalen Redmond @OU_Football and #Panthers per a league source.”
Cap Expert Describes Jefferson Extension, Using Words like “Historic,” “Obliterate,” and “Absolutely Gigantic”
The Justin Jefferson extension has certainly created some reactions. The NFL’s best wide receiver is going to be a Viking for the next five years. Being able to attach him to the roster for so long involved Kwesi Adofo-Mensah sending over a four-year agreement that promises to pay a staggering $140 million. Jason Fitzgerald of Over the Cap — one of the online authorities on the NFL cap — offered his assessment of the deal recently.
The Vikings’ Bargain Bin All Star on Defense
There’s no sense of exaggeration in claiming that one of the absolute best decisions of Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s career has been to sign UDFA Ivan Pace Jr. The Vikings’ bargain bin all star at linebacker generated no shortage of hype last offseason. Even more promising is that he not only fulfilled the hype but far exceeded it. The 5’10”, 231-pound defender entered the season as a 22-year-old who had to scrape and claw to get onto the final roster. He finished the season as being among Minnesota’s top players as a locked-in starter and genuine difference maker on Sunday.
Vikings Offseason Assessment? “Slow-and-Steady” but Still “Fascinating”
Almost everyone following the Vikings offseason is looking for more insight about what’s transpiring between rookie J.J. McCarthy and veteran Sam Darnold. To that end, the recent word from Alec Lewis simply functions as further corroboration of what we already knew. Lewis thinks that Minnesota is going to develop McCarthy slowly while foreshadowing some positive things for Mr. Darnold.
