Vikings’ Cap Set to Encounter Familiar Foe in 2025
All things considered, the Vikings’ cap is sitting in a good spot for 2025. Over the Cap suggests that Minnesota is operating with somewhere around $54.5 million in open room. Now, keep in mind that looking at a team’s salary cap is like watching a game of ping pong: things go back and forth with great regularity. The simple fact that Dallas Turner and J.J. McCarthy are yet to sign their rookie deals means that the budget isn’t accounting for a pair of highly-picked players. Just those two will push things below $50 million.
Vikings Defense Appears Ready to Welcome Five New Starters
First off, a tip of the cap to Dustin Baker, who offered a similar piece on Vikings Territory. Where I’ll differ rests in the focus on defense and on who is being elevated. During free agency, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made bold decisions for the Vikings defense. Edge rusher stands out since Jonathan Greenard landed a four-year deal with a whopping $76 million attached, but he’s not alone in the fight for a new job in Minnesota. Consider the full gamut of players who look like they’ve got a shot at being starters, with one notable name being an in-house youngster who is poised to breakout.
ESPN Gives Young Vikings the Cold Shoulder
General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was hired in 2022, inheriting an aging roster. Too many of the previous drafts didn’t provide enough young talent to keep the team in Super Bowl contention. His first draft wasn’t any better, with Lewis Cine and Andrew Booth disappointing through two seasons. The following two drafts, however, brought some exciting talent to Minnesota.
Unclaimed Vikings: 6 Players Still Waiting for Their Next Chance
The 2023 Minnesota Vikings finished with an underwhelming 7-10 record. However, much of that can be attributed to Kirk Cousins’ season-ending injury right when the team played like a contending team and the subsequent QB carousel. His free agency journey ended quickly after signing with the Atlanta Falcons, but six other players from last year’s team are still available.
J.J. McCarthy Has Already Stolen Some Hearts
After six years with quarterback Kirk Cousins as the organization’s quarterback, it was time for a change. Cousins joined the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, while the Vikings pivoted to the cheaper Sam Darnold before picking J.J. McCarthy in the draft. If the 21-year-old develops well over the next few years, he can be the franchise’s future at the most important position.
Do the Vikings Shave their LB Room Down to the Bare Minimum?
Over the past little bit, I’ve been unveiling a position-by-position roster projection for the Vikings. As the focus shifts to defense, we come around to linebacker. Do the Vikings shave things down to the minimum at this spot?. Right now, there is a ton of optimism surrounding Ivan Pace...
Vikings Rumors: The Tannehill Thrill, A Great Problem in MIN, and an Old Friend for RB3
Even though we’re officially into the portion of the year when Vikings rumors are slowing down, we’ll still be highlighting some of the purple rumblings. The “Vikings Rumor Wrangle” is a series that keeps readers informed on what’s being whispered about in Vikings Land. In this iteration, we discuss Ryan Tannehill’s free agency, Minnesota navigating a great problem with their young talent, and re-adding an old friend for RB3 duty.
Don’t Forget 1 Speedy Vikings Weapon
The Minnesota Vikings have made many changes in the offseason. Kirk Cousins’ departure is certainly the most significant difference from last year. Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy will try to take his place under center. Other changes on offense include K.J. Osborn’s absence; his backups from last season, Jalen Nailor or Brandon Powell, are slated to be the new WR3.
ESPN’s Latest Mock Draft Is Good and Bad News for Vikings
The 2024 draft ended just over two months ago, and the Minnesota Vikings added some wonderful pieces. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah traded up to acquire quarterback J.J. McCarthy, and he paid a premium to obtain pass rusher Dallas Turner. The duo is talented enough to lead the franchise into a new era.
2024 Vikings: 4 Reasons for Optimism
Coming off a 7-10 season, the expectations are low for the 2024 Vikings. Minnesota lost starting quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency after six seasons as the signal-caller, which is the main reason for the generally skeptical approach. The win total is currently set at seven, and the franchise faces the worst odds to win the NFC North.
Vikings’ Breakout Candidate to Get “Premium Chances” at Training Camp
Someone along the defensive line needs to step up to form a gruesome twosome with Harrison Phillips. Why not soon-to-be sophomore Jaquelin Roy?. The Vikings’ breakout candidate showed some good moments as a rookie. Going into Year 2, Roy appears ready to build off of a rookie season with just 96 snaps on defense. The word from Alec Lewis of The Athletic is that the LSU alumnus is going to be given an opportunity: “Further along than Esezi Otomewo was after one season. Flores will give him premium chances in training camp.”
Adam Thielen Gives Verdict on Minnesota’s New QB
The Minnesota Vikings will have a new starting quarterback in Week 1 for the first time since Kirk Cousins joined in 2018. It will either be Sam Darnold, the free-agent signing, or rookie J.J. McCarthy, who the Vikings acquired in exchange for the tenth overall pick. The latter has drawn some exciting praise from a former Viking.
The Vikings’ Option Buried at the Back of the Justin Jefferson Deal
By grinding out a four-year extension for Justin Jefferson, the Vikings will have their WR1 in town for the next five seasons. At 25, Jefferson is still firmly within his prime and Minnesota appears set to have him for the remainder of his 20s. Something that’s notable about his deal,...
Benchmark Chatter Returns for Vikings’ Rookie
The Minnesota Vikings have one major attraction in their locker room. All eyes are on rookie J.J. McCarthy and whether he can compete with Sam Darnold for the starting spot under center in Week 1. There is no general rule that rookies must sit and learn behind veterans, as every situation is different. Some veterans are more established than the average one-year rental bridge starter, and some rookies are more refined than others.

Don’t Expect the Free Agent Signing to Be Vikings’ WR3
The Vikings have had an exciting wideout duo for years, first with Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, then Justin Jefferson and Thielen. Now, sophomore Jordan Addison is foreseen to be Jefferson’s wingman for years to come. The spot behind them, however, has not always been set, particularly before K.J. Osborn emerged in 2021.
Vikings’ UDFA Add at Linebacker is “Athletic,” “Instinctive,” and “A Balanced Tackle Finisher”
Ivan Pace is the gold standard for UDFA linebackers. Basically, anyone coming in at that position needs to emulate what the Cincinnati Bearcat accomplished in Year 1. Can the Vikings’ UDFA LB Dallas Gant be that player? Or, perhaps, can he show at least some of the positives?. Gant...
Former Vikings CB Continues NFL Journey with NFC Rival
Part of what made former Vikings CB Parry Nickerson notable was that he bridged the gap between the Mike Zimmer and Kevin O’Connell eras. Shifting things over to Ed Donatell meant things were looking very different for Minnesota’s defense, but Nickerson stuck around in a depth role. He didn’t hang around in 2023, though, and the 2024 season is bringing even more change. Per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, the Philadelphia Eagles have welcomed the corner aboard: “#Eagles signed Parry Nickerson.”
Report: Vikings Plan to Re-Sign Running Back
The rushing attack has been alarmingly bad since Kevin O’Connell’s arrival as the Vikings’ head coach in 2022. In those two seasons, the Vikings ranked 27th in EPA/run and yards per attempt, and the 3,214 rushing yards placed the group 28th in a leaguewide comparison. It is a huge point of emphasis in the 2024 offseason.
