Two men have been arrested after a stolen dirt bike investigation led to discovery of one man with an outstanding warrant, and another with multiple outstanding warrants, state police said.

Connecticut State Police troopers from Troop D-Danielson were asked on Wednesday, July 24, to help the Putnam Police Department with a stolen dirt bike investigation, according to a police report. The dirt bike had a tracker attached and it showed the vehicle in the vicinity of Knox Avenue in Danielson.

A dirt bike was located in plain view in the area on a private driveway on Knox Avenue, according to police.

The homeowner, identified as John Lane, 52, then “explained that the dirt bike they were looking for was in a trailer on his property,” state police said in report. “The dirt bike was then located and confirmed” as the one in the Putnam investigation.

The second dirt bike seen on the driveway was allegedly stolen, police said. Lane was not able to say how the bike came to be in the trailer, police said.

“During this investigation, it was learned that Lane had an active, extraditable arrest warrant out of Foster, RI,” police said in a report. “Lane was arrested on the strength of the extraditable arrest warrant, in addition to possession of stolen property.”

A trooper on the scene also recognized an individual sitting on the porch of the property as Andrew Lowell, 33, who had multiple outstanding failure to appear arrest warrants pending. He was arrested shortly thereafter without incident, according to a police report.

Lane is charged with fugitive from justice and first-degree criminal trover, the report said. Lowell, no town given, is charged with six counts of second-degree failure to appear, police said.

Both dirt bites were recovered by Putnam police.
