(WJAR) — Rhode Island reported the first finding of the West Nile Virus in a mosquito sample this year on Friday. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Rhode Island Department of Health announced that WNV was found in a mosquito sample collected in Pawtucket on July 15.
Cyanobacteria closes Silver Lake Beach
GRAFTON – Silver Lake Beach had to be closed on Thursday, July 25, due to the presence of cyanobacteria in the water. According to the Recreation Department, “When the beach staff arrived Thursday morning for their usual job duties, a visual inspection of the water indicated potential cyanobacteria blooms in the water. Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, can be harmful to bathers and animals who go into the beach.
