Prince William County Parks Announces Fridays at 5 Summer Concert Series Dates
Provided by Prince William County Parks & Recreation. Fridays at 5 returns this July! Prince William County Parks and Recreation is excited to once again partner with VA StrEATs and Luxe Entertainment to host Fridays at 5, the free*, outdoor summer concert series beginning 5 p.m., Friday, July 5. The event will feature live music, food trucks, beer and wine for purchase and face painting for the kids.

Westridge Elementary School was abuzz with excitement recently as they hosted author Shannon Anderson. Anderson’s book “I Love Strawberries!” combines playful puns, silly moments, and practical information about growing strawberries and perseverance. The author engaged with young students to share her journey and the essence of perseverance in writing.
Pattie Elementary School Students Showcase Their Songwriting Talents
Pattie Elementary School recently hosted a residency program in collaboration with Kid Pan Alley. Professional songwriters spent two days at the school engaging with second grade students to help them compose and craft their own original songs. According to Kid Pan Alley’s mission statement, their goal is to inspire creativity, boost confidence, and foster a sense of community among children of all ages through the collaborative songwriting process.
Three PWCS Principals Chosen as Distinguished Cahn Fellows
Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) is pleased to announce that three principals, Jim Dutrow from Lake Ridge Middle School, Kaitlyn Engelmeier-Foor from Porter Traditional School, and Heather Goode from Sinclair Elementary School, have been selected to participate in the prestigious Cahn Distinguished Principals Fellowship for 2024-25. These exceptional leaders are three of just 70 principals chosen nationwide to be part of the 2024-25 cohort.
Poverty and Services Simulation Provides Real Life Experience for Employees and Others

Prince William County employees from 19 county departments, as well as several of the county’s community partners, recently gathered to take part in a Poverty and Services Simulation Experience. The learning exercise immersed those who attended in the complex realities faced by individuals and families living in poverty. It highlighted the challenges and dynamics of accessing human services and other support systems within our community, thereby helping employees better understand those processes to better serve those living in poverty.

ARTfactory to Feature the Infinity Collective in “Just Another Day” Exhibit
Artist Reception: June 29, 6 to 8 p.m. 9419 Battle Street, Manassas, Free and open to the public. Just Another Day challenges the notion that Black women as artists are required to attach political narratives to their work. The exhibit explores the freedom to create artwork that is not laden with the required Black narratives of social Justice, racism, and equality. Instead, it is a visual representation of Black women claiming the space to simply exist and share and celebrate moments of the mundane.

Marriage License Archives Now Available via the Historical Online Portal (HOP)
Provided by the Prince William County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. The Prince William County Circuit Court Clerk’s Historical Online Portal (HOP) now contains marriage licenses recorded from Civil War times to the early 1900s. This is part of the Clerk’s ongoing initiative to make historical papers more easily accessible for research. The HOP, which launched in early 2023, also offers access to Deeds, Wills and Lists of Heirs.

There is still time to register for Occoquan’s 2nd Annual “Whatever Floats Your Boat Parade,” which will take place this Saturday, June 1, as part of the RiverFest and Craft Show. Design and decorate a river vessel that expresses your creativity — be it raft, canoe, inflatable, dinghy, kayak, rowboat or other non-motorized craft. Launch at the Occoquan Regional Park site and paddle or row along the coastline of town to Occoquan’s footbridge to be judged.
