Letter: Mental health resources desperately needed in schools
As we witness a surge in anxiety and depression among our youth, it is imperative that we take immediate action to expand mental health services in our public schools. Recent studies have shown a significant increase in anxiety and depression among children and adolescents, exacerbated by the isolation and uncertainties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the CDC, the proportion of mental health-related emergency department visits among adolescents aged 12-17 years increased by 31% in 2020 compared to the previous year. This alarming trend highlights a critical need for accessible mental health services within our schools.

Letter: Where’s the Utah County DA when we really need him?
Utah County residents may be feeling voters’ remorse when it comes to Jeff Gray, the new Utah County District Attorney. While he campaigned on a platform of law and order and being tough on crime, it seems that there is one type of crime he refuses to prosecute: government corruption. In fact, it appears that his office has recently advocated to the Utah Appellate Courts that governmental officials who intentionally commit fraud or willful misconduct should not be held accountable civilly and he declines to prosecute them criminally. When governmental officials are allowed to intentionally break the law without consequences, then tyranny and corruption reign. Sadly, the Utah County DA has gone silent or missing in responding to numerous allegations of governmental corruption in Utah County including allegations of intentional fraud and willful misconduct by city officials in Utah County. While district attorneys have broad discretion in exercising their prosecutorial duties, when it comes to policing governmental corruption, Utah County residents should expect swift and tough enforcement of the law. As evidence of wrongdoing piles up, the Utah County DA simply waits for the statute of limitations to expire. This is not a matter of funding; it is a matter of choosing to turn a blind eye to protect corrupt government. We call upon Jeff Gray to take a stronger position against government corruption and prosecute crimes by governmental officials and corrupt politicians. Step up! Utah County deserves cleaner government!
