Did summer 2021 mark peak house price growth?
A number of factors pushed UK house prices up this summer. Changing housing preferences due to Covid-19, a relatively low supply of homes, low-mortgage rates and the Stamp Duty holiday all played their part. They collectively fuelled a red-hot housing market and caused house prices to rise to levels not seen before.
4 UK dividend shares I’d buy in October
As markets settle into a busy trading season, I’m considering what UK dividend shares I might add to my portfolio in October to boost my passive income. Here are four ideas I would consider. Two decade dividend raiser. The tobacco stalwart British American Tobacco has been raising its dividend annually...
Is SSE the best renewable energy stock?
Is SSE (LSE: SSE) the best renewable energy stock? It’s certainly one of the biggest. It also has clear green credentials given its massive involvement in UK wind power and other renewables. Shorter term, it could also be boosted by the involvement of activist investor Elliott Management, which is said to be pushing for a separation of the energy group’s renewables business. Recently that has nudged the share price higher, in what has otherwise been a pretty weak month for the FTSE 100.
1 FTSE 100 and 1 FTSE 250 stock I’d buy for my investment portfolio
If there is anything the pandemic has taught me, it is that safe stocks can be good growth stocks too. They might not show the kind of runaway growth that some cyclical stocks or those in rising industries might, but they can rise consistently over time. And the best part is that they do not lost a whole lot of value, at least not for long, when the stock markets are uncertain.
How I’d build passive income streams for the cost of a pint
Passive income is money received without working for it. Investing in UK dividend stocks is one of my favourite ideas for passive income streams. I like the idea of being able to get a share of any income paid out by a blue chip company rather than spending my own time and effort on unproven moneymaking schemes.
2 FTSE 100 shares to buy in October
We are currently in a unique economic climate and market movements are hard to read. With the fear of another market collapse looming large, panic selling is a real problem. As we head into October, I am focussing on these two tested, robust FTSE 100 shares with a history of positive financial performance and shareholder returns.
2 penny stocks I’d buy before it’s too late
Greetings card retailer Card Factory (LSE: CARD) was trading at a share price far higher than 100p before the pandemic happened. It has not gone back to those levels since. But, it has made much progress in the past year. Its share price is up some 55% since last September.
Why isn’t the Aston Martin share price moving up?
Over the past year, shares in luxury carmaker Aston Martin (LSE: AML) have increased in value by 82%. But for most of 2021, the Aston Martin share price has put in a lacklustre performance, falling by 15% since the start of February. Below I explain why – and whether I...
Here’s why I prefer cheap UK shares over bonds any day
Asset allocation is a vital part of portfolio management. For example, one’s wealth might be spread across property, shares, bonds, cash, etc. Asset allocation describes how portfolios are divided up across assets. Historically, a long-term growth portfolio (say, a pension) would have 60% in shares and 40% in bonds (the 60/40 split). But given what’s happening today, I think the 60/40 split is history. Indeed, my family portfolio is invested very differently. Here’s why…
Here’s why I will continue to avoid easyJet shares
I believe easyJet (LSE:EZJ) is one of a number of airlines continuing to suffer a hangover from the pandemic. I wrote earlier this year that I would avoid easyJet shares for my portfolio. Reviewing more recent events, my stance has not changed. easyJet share price woes. As I write, easyJet...
The Royal Mail share price is up 96% in the past year. Have I missed the boat?
The Royal Mail (LSE: RMG) share price has nearly doubled since this time last year. In September 2020, it was at 240p. Then increased demand for its services saw the share price hit a high of 606p on 8 June, before slipping by 22% to 472p today. So does this...
How to potentially find UK shares that could 10 bag
Finding a UK share that can go up 1,000%, that is, ‘ten bag’, requires a mix of luck, research, and a lot of patience I think. Yet of course there are UK shares with massive growth potential. Here’s how I go about rooting out such shares. Note of caution. Before...

Let’s rank the last four teams standing in the WNBA playoffs. After two rounds of single-elimination games, we are down to the last four teams in the WNBA playoffs. There are a couple of teams remaining that I didn’t think would make it this far. In our initial postseason rankings,...
