New Head Start Classrooms Opening at the Esperanza Center in Moline
After being closed since before COVID the Esperanza Center in Moline will open its doors to up to 80 preschool children this fall. Head Start Director, Andrea Flannery is thrilled the center—located in the Floreciente neighborhood– will be filled with students. “The Floreciente community has always embraced Project NOW’s Head Start. We have a long and rich history partnering with this community to enhance lives. We want to be that support in the city of Moline for these underserved neighborhoods. We want to share in their progress, success, and growth in our shared community, and that starts with serving some of the youngest, and turning them into Head Start kids!”
“The Rocky Horror Show” Hits Rock Island October 20
That sweet transvestite, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, and his motley crew are back this October for their annual appearance at The Speakeasy in downtown Rock Island!. On the way to visit an old college professor, two clean cut kids, Brad Majors and his fiancée Janet Weiss, get caught in a storm and end up at the home of a mad transvestite scientist, Dr Frank ‘n’ Furter, who is in the midst of one of his maniacal experiments! The show is filled with memorable songs including “The Time Warp”, Sweet Transvestite”, “I’m Going Home” and “I Can Make You A Man.”

Mo.Live! grew out of the popularity of last year’s Moline 150th Sesquicentennial Celebration. A lot of Mo liners were commenting on the city’s social media about how much they enjoyed the gig and suggesting that it become an annual thing, so the city did their best to oblige.

The story of how two young sisters, Juanita and Betty Wagner of Danville, Iowa became pen pals with Anne Frank and her sister Margo, just as Amsterdam was occupied by Nazi Germany on May 10, 1940. The letters that united these four young girls are now owned and displayed by the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, CA. The Danville, Iowa Station Museum is the only remote location where the Wiesenthal Center allows copies of the letters to be displayed.
