Davenport Central High School Girls Swim Team Places Third In Iowa
The Davenport Central High School girls swim team competed at the state meet! The weekend started with Mary Selden and the Davenport Central staff receiving awards for the regional swimmer and Coaching staff of the year. Congratulations to the team of Hannah Cousins, Isabel Heller, Simone Green, and Gabbie Hanson for being awarded state runner-ups with an All-American consideration time in the 200-yard medley relay. Altogether, the team placed third in the state and the Davenport Central Coaching Staff was named Iowa Coaching Staff of the Year. The girls worked hard throughout their swimming careers to get to this spot. We are extremely proud of these Blue Devils!
Rock Island Students Get Real-World Experience During National Apprenticeship Week
This week is National Apprenticeship Week! We want to celebrate our Rock Island High School students who are enrolled in the U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program and thank our community partners who are employing them for these apprenticeships. These students attend RIHS in the morning and work in the afternoon at local businesses.

Bettendorf, IOWA – November 13, 2023 – The Bettendorf Public Library will be peeking inside the Putnam Museum’s newest exhibit. The Community Connections: Common Ground: Our Voice, Our Stories event will take place on Thursday, November 30th at 1:30 PM. Davenport Intermediate School Girls Attend John Deere Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day
Over 150 girls from all five intermediate schools in Davenport attended Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day put on by John Deere. They spent the day working individually and as a team to build a car that kept an egg safe, created a memory game, and worked on an engine. The students learned about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). They also toured John Deere Harvester Works!

Miss Iowa 2023, Alyssa Goethe, visited students at McKinley Elementary School yesterday morning. Having been diagnosed with diabetes at 11 years old, she spoke about her personal journey and emphasized the importance of treating others with kindness. She is also the daughter of Carla Goethe, a kindergarten teacher at McKinley.
Davenport Central Speech and Debate Rock It At Bettendorf Competition
The Davenport Central Speech and Debate team did an outstanding job at their recent competition at Bettendorf. Both public forum debate teams ended up 3-2 and just missed the semifinals. Both teams beat prestigious teams from Iowa City West. In the speech competitions, Benie, Carter, and Reuben did fantastic work, with Reuben winning the Original Oratory category!
