QUAKER CITY − Mud volleyball, one of the area's favorite fundraisers, made its way back to Quaker City over the weekend.

The annual event is run and organized by Jake Kehl, with a lot of help from friends and family.

This year 60 teams registered to compete, but as of 9:30 a.m. on the day of the tournament, only 44 teams were able to make it. Last year 41 teams competed and 38 teams the year before that, as the tournament has slowly grown.

Teams rotated in and out of three dug out mud pits over the hill at the Quaker City Park as they faced off all in good fun. The theme this was the 1980s, and teams went all out. Neon clothing, tutus and metallic blue leotards stole the show.

While most team names had some sort of saucy title, some kept it a bit cleaner. Mud, Sweat, and Beers (teams one and two), Kiss My Ace, and What's Up Brother were just some of the competing teams.

Organizer Kehl said they had raised roughly $6,700 from the evet, including money from raffles and games. Money raised is donated to cancer research and suicide prevention.

The future of the annual event is up in the air for 2025. According to Kehl said he'll be stepping aside and hopes to see someone new take over the planning and organizing of the fundraiser.
