A Good Samaritan rescued a two-month-old infant who was left in a 117-degree car while his mother went shopping in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Authorities said he had been sitting in the car for more than 30 minutes in 90-degree weather.

On July 5, the man discovered the baby left alone in the unlocked car and carried him into an air-conditioned store before calling 911. He and two other bystanders stayed with the infant until authorities arrived. Police say the boy was not harmed after he was transported to a nearby hospital. Janelle Loveless,33, was arrested and charged with endangering a child.

While being questioned by police, Loveless explained that she “just plain” forgot that her son was in the car. In addition to her arrest, Pennsylvania’s Child Services Department is investigating Loveless. Police said she is a stay-at-home mother but has also worked as a Christian singer with original songs on SoundCloud and YouTube. She also has two other children.

Quakertown Police Chief Scott McElree noted that incidents of parents leaving their children in hot cars are not unheard of, even in the relatively small community of Quakertown.

“If it wasn’t for that citizen who called 911 and extracted the infant from the car, that could have been deadly,”

According to 6ABC, Loveless also faces a charge of driving without a license and is out on bail. This year, 18 children have died in hot cars nationwide, and there have been 987 deaths since 1998. Data shows that most of those deaths were children under two years old, the outlet reported.
