GASTON COUNTY ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — The City of Gastonia hosted a poverty simulation Wednesday.

People living in Gaston County were able to put themselves in the shoes of those who are less fortunate. The event gave people a glimpse into the daily challenges people living in poverty face daily.

“I can almost assume that there are a lot of people that have a sense of anxiety because it really creates that sort of feeling of how am I going to get things done with the limited time that I have or the resources that I have,” DEI Coordinator Cherie Jzar said.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 14% of people living in Gastonia are in poverty.
