KANNAPOLIS, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — The city of Kannapolis renamed a new street near Veterans Park to honor its military veterans.

Kannapolis City Council renamed Southern Avenue to Kannapolis Veterans Way.

There’s a unique way to fly the flag for Memorial Day: Do you know it?

The announcement was made during the Memorial Day Service at Veterans Park on Monday.

“Kannapolis has a proud heritage of men and women serving in the military. It is our privilege to rename this street in honor of the thousands of Kannapolis, Rowan and Cabarrus County residents who have served in the military and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their life. We are grateful for the sacrifices made in the past and present by those who have served and are serving now. This is a very small token of appreciation to show how appreciative we are of all our military servicepeople,” Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant said.

Veterans Park on Main Street is a beautiful place for community gatherings such as concerts and special events. Features such as the enteral flame, granite Ring of Honor, Memorial Plaza monument and bronze wreath create an atmosphere for reflection to pay tribute to those who have served.
