CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Several Charlotte-area school districts made changes to their schedules this week following Tropical Storm Debby.

Rowan-Salisbury Schools and Stanly County Schools both announced they’re closed on Friday, Aug. 9. Chester County Schools District in SC will be operating on a two-hour delay.

“After consulting with Emergency Management and weather officials, schools will be closed for students on Thursday and Friday, August 8 and 9 due to the potential impact of Tropical Storm Debby. There will be no athletic events held on these dates. The first day of school for students will be rescheduled to Monday, August 12,” Stanly County Schools said.

“No school on Friday, August 9. Optional day for staff,” Rowan-Salisbury Schools said.

“Due to several road closures and flooding around Chester County, all schools and district offices will operate on a 2-hour delay for Friday, August 9. All arrival and bus pickup times will be adjusted accordingly. We ask that everyone please maintain caution on the roadways and continue to follow our social media pages for any updates,” Chester County School District said.

On Thursday, as Debby moves across the Carolinas, two school districts decided to remain open. Both Rock Hill Schools and Fort Mill Schools had their first day of school as planned.

What’s left of Debby will exit to our north inundating parts of Pennsylvania, New York, and much of the northeast with rounds of tropical moisture and gusty winds. We’ll replace the rain with the heat here in the Queen City as highs aim to hit the low 90s to end the work week.

We’ll peak in the low 90s with a heat index approaching triple digits Friday afternoon. Spotty showers and storms will be possible with a weak cold front moving in this afternoon and evening.

Friday night will be warm, dipping into the low 70s as we head into the weekend. Saturday will hit the low 90s with slightly cooler temperatures on the way for next week. We’ll go from the upper 80s on Sunday and settle into the mid-80s through much of next week.

Skies will be partly cloudy for the most part with spotty showers and storm chances rolling back in through the start of next week.
