GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Gaston County nonprofit is partnering with Tito’s Handmade Vodka in efforts to build an animal hospital.

The Animal League of Gaston County is an animal welfare nonprofit that operates a low-cost spay/neuter clinic. In a campaign to open to a full-service, affordable veterinary facility, Tito’s is matching 100 percent of community donations, up to $60,000, through the end of the year.

Animal shelter is overcapacity following Gaston County storm

ALGC says the average cost of a veterinary visit in North Carolina is $66.67, but a wellness visit at ALGC’s clinic is $30 and a sick visit is $35.

“We’re so thankful for Tito’s support of our matching campaign,” said Terry Kenny, CEO of the Animal League of Gaston County. “We want to help as many pets as possible, and through this clinic, we’ll be able to! Tito’s match will give us a significant boost, and we’re confident that the Gaston County community will help us raise the rest.”

Tito’s is known as the “Vodka for Dog People,” as indicated on its containers.

ALGC first opened their spay/neuter clinic on West Franklin Blvd. in 2009, and has taken care of more than 83,000 animals since. They began offering veterinary care in 2020, but need from the community has far outweighed their ability to provide care in their existing facility.

“The work that Animal League of Gaston County does to care for pets in their community is truly inspiring, and we are honored to support this matching campaign to help make their work even more impactful and successful,” says Lindsey Bates, Tito’s senior director of philanthropy.

ALGC is the only service of its kind in a three-county area, but there are no residency or income requirements.
